Job Description Summary:The selected postdoctoral fellow will be supportedby NCAR's MMM laboratory to work on model development for whole earthapplications, including, depending on the incumbent's expertise andinterests, numerical methods development, atmospheric physicsdevelopment, model coupling (ocean) and GPU extensions for the Model forPrediction Across Scales (MPAS). They will also support, and ifappropriate lead, science applications employing MPAS in convectionpermitting global and regional applications. Specifically, the incumbentwould assist in producing and analyzing an upcoming DYAMOND simulation thatinvolves running MPAS for a 1-year period with a 3.75 km global mesh, andthey would assist and possibly lead components of MPAS NWP applications, including real-time forecast applications involving field programs andpotential MPAS-A use in operational configurations by centers collaboratingwit
The postdoctoral fellow will bring knowledge in atmospheric modeling and inatmospheric dynamics, moist convection and convective systems. It isdesirable that they have a basic understanding of atmospheric model numericsneeded to configure, debug and help optimize atmospheric modelconfigurations. The ability to develop and debug post-processing tools usingpython and other languages is highly desirable.
The postdoctoral fellow will work collaboratively with staff within NCAR'sMMM laboratory, with university collaborators, and those at otherlaboratories nationally and internationally to advance MPAS and its scienceapplications while gaining post-doctoral research experience.Position Details:Visa Sponsored Job:Yes
