As an Omnicell Staff Mechanical Engineer, you will play a lead role in the development and launch of new products in the Omnicell product portfolio. The candidate will work with all levels within the company and collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Service, Install, Supply Chain, and others. This role requires demonstrated engineering leadership skills, with an ability to work with manufacturing, external vendors, resolve technical challenges, including experience as a technical lead for large New Product Development efforts.
Responsibilities
Leads the mechanical development of a flagship product line ensuring customer needs, quality of design, cost targets, and timelines are met.
Collaborates closely with Electrical, Embedded Software, and Systems engineering teams to ensure integrated design.
Leads and manages external development partners to ensure product requirements and timelines are met.
Provides mentorship and guidance to less senior engineers on the team.
Participates in program planning and task estimation.
Has hands-on involvement in the design and development of mechanical elements of automation systems in Omnicell’s Point of Care product space.
Collaborates closely with Manufacturing/Supply Chain/Service/Installation in the development of new products to ensure designs are manufacturable, cost effective and serviceable.
Leads Design Reviews with a focus on requirements, quality of design, DFM and serviceability.
Leads Root Cause Analysis efforts and defining creative and effective corrective actions.
Provides technical leadership on a day-to-day basis of the team assuring that results deliver quality and value for our customers.
Plays a significant role in defining the technology strategy for the company as well as the acquisition and development of new technologies.
Demonstrates broad influence across teams and is regularly sought out to help resolve technical challenges in their area of expertise.
Conducts feasibility studies of new and modified complex electro-mechanical systems.
Leads the execution of failure modes and effect analysis (FMEA) of system level and sub-system level designs to identify high risk areas to improve designs.
Develops quarterly goals for themselves and broader team members.
Required Knowledge and Skills
Experienced in New Product Development and leading a design team from the concept phase though scaled commercial launch.
Demonstrated experience managing external development partners at all stages of product development.
Advanced knowledge in Mechanical Design as related to key manufacturing processes such as injection molding, press brake sheet metal, OTS component evaluation and selection.
Demonstrated experience with designing complex electro-mechanical subassemblies and systems from concept through product launch.
Strong working knowledge of DFM including expertise in tolerance analysis, manufacturing and inspection techniques, and product lifecycle planning.
Ability to lead and motivate a team of engineers, maintaining a positive attitude and fun and exciting work environment along the way.
Self-starter, capable of working independently as well as building strong cross functional collaborative relationships.
Good interpersonal and communication skills and adept communicating at all levels within the organization.
Must be able to work in a team environment and assist cross-functional teams with solving complex issues.
Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite of Products.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred; may consider relevant experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.
15+ years Mechanical Engineering experience with a degree; 19+ years Mechanical Engineering experience in lieu of a degree.
Experience with Bill of Materials, MRP systems and ECR/ECO processes.
Experience in a project lead role.
Experience with Solidworks, or other 3D CAD modeling software
Experience with computer analysis methods and software (FEA, CFD, Moldflow, etc).
Preferred Qualifications
Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Experience with Solidworks PDM.
Work Conditions
Office Environment.
Willingness to travel to domestic and international off-site locations as necessary to directly support product development efforts.
