SAIC is seeking a highly motivated Engineer to support the U.S. Space Force. Candidate will perform Mission Assurance and Independent Verification and Validation of launch service contractor (LSC) flight software.
This is a leadership opportunity to support the United States Space Force and there is a potential for occasional remote work.
At the San Bernardino engineering center, we are a multi-discipline team of propulsion, structures, fluid mechanics, avionics, guidance, navigation, controls, and software engineers.
The center supports the Rocket System Launch Program (RSLP) which is a United States Space Force program that provides quick access to space for other government agencies. We work with various launch vehicle contractors throughout the country and perform independent verification and validation (IV&V) of their launch vehicle designs.
Roles and Responsibilities:
· Mentor junior engineers in Software engineering and programming concepts, processes, analyses, and tool development
· Lead and mentor team in the following software analysis-focused tasks:
o Independently reviewing and analyzing launch vehicle contractor flight software requirements, design and implementation, and test and integration processes and products from an entire software development lifecycle
o Developing analysis tools to support independent reviews and analyses
o Performing data collection, manipulation, and reduction in support of reviews and analyses
o Participating in technical interchanges and reviews to assess launch vehicle contractor’s development progress and provide additional analyses such as anomaly investigations and risk assessments as requested by the customer
o Reviewing LSC software testing including planning, procedures, and results
o Performing software load verification to ensure correct flight software is properly loaded on launch vehicle
o Performing post-flight assessment of flight and ground software
o Assisting in the development of automated testing software
o Preparing presentations, reports, and other contract deliverables related to analyses performed
o Presenting results of analyses to, and address issues and concerns with, program office, customers, launch contractors, and independent peer review teams
· Lead and mentor team in the following complex analysis tool development tasks:
o Developing and configuring a computer-in-the-loop (CIL) analysis toolset which integrates launch support contractor flight software and equipment within a high-fidelity, real-time flight dynamics and environment simulation using embedded equipment and software
o Conducting dynamic analysis of launch vehicle contractor’s flight software using CIL analysis toolset
o Applying configuration control and quality assurance to analysis tool products
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering and 14 years related experience.
· Proven experience in project management especially leading multi-tasking team efforts and guiding the technical progress of inexperienced engineers
Defining, delegating, de-conflicting, and tracking day-to-day administrative and technical tasks
Guiding and bounding technical problem-solving efforts
Determining and regularly updating task schedules and levels of effort
Reporting progress to management
· High proficiency with:
C/C++ and other scientific programming languages (Python, Matlab)
Linux OS development environments
· Experience with:
Object-Oriented software architectures
Software code review and testing as well as programming
Software development standards, policies, and procedures
Schedule and level of effort management tools
· Knowledge in:
Embedded computer systems and software
Real-time computing
High fidelity simulation and modeling
Test equipment
· Proficiency with:
Mathematics (linear algebra, statistics)
Software configuration management (Git, GitHub)
MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
· Demonstrated:
Leadership and multi-disciplined team organization skills
Presentation skills and experience interfacing with program offices, customers, associated contractors, and other program related organizations
Interpersonal skills reflecting a proactive, self-starting, independent, flexible, team-based approach
Target salary range: $150,001 - $175,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
