The Materials and Corrosion Engineer position provides consulting services and support to Chevron’s Downstream & Chemicals businesses. The Material and Corrosion Engineer’s primary duties are to develop and communicate expertise on materials selection, damage mechanism reviews/identification, corrosion monitoring and control, failure analysis, interpretation of inspection data, critical reliability variables, welding and fabrication troubleshooting, mechanical design review, and equipment repair strategies. This role will also support the development and execution of fixed equipment asset strategies utilizing Risk Based Inspection (RBI) analysis per API 580 and API 581. This career ladder position offers potential growth in this and related technical fields.
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
Provides Materials Engineering consulting to inspectors, engineers, management, and operators.
Provides consultation on materials selection, corrosion monitoring and control, remaining life assessment, and repair strategies.
Participates in planning and executing work plans for plant turnarounds and capital projects.
Develops and reviews technical specifications relating to materials and corrosion.
Works with other Materials Engineers in Chevron to develop common tools, processes, and decision making criteria.
Works with industry community for training, obtaining technical information needed for consultation, and staying current with the state of the art knowledge that may have application in Chevron.
Occasionally responds to emergency calls and works long associated hours, especially during turnaround events, occasionally on an unplanned basis.
Works in and around operating facilities, manufacturer testing sites, with occasional climbing and internal equipment access.
Travels domestically roughly 25%, depending on assigned projects.
Required Qualifications:
8 years of Materials Engineering experience (or related position) in refineries or chemical plants, including responsibilities like those listed above.
Demonstrate good communication skills, both oral and written, vertically and across the organization.
Demonstrate the ability to lead and participate in team activities resulting in high-quality problem-solving, root cause analysis, and RBI studies.
Preferred Qualifications:
Degree in Materials, Corrosion, Metallurgical Engineering.
API certifications in 510, 570, 580, and 571.
A strong background in metallurgy.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $ 128,400 – $ 256,300. The selected candidate’s compensation will be determined based on their skills, experience, and qualifications.
