The Digital Executive Producer at WRIC ABC 8News leads the overall editorial presentation of its website, mobile app and social media accounts. They are a leader in the newsroom’s digital growth. Primary responsibilities include managing a team that creates content and performs content management throughout the day. Priorities include audience growth and creative multimedia storytelling. Understanding journalism, editing, digital production, SEO, newsroom workflow and delegation are paramount. This is a key newsroom management position essential for the daily digital execution of the brand. This position reports directly to the News Director.

At 8News, the Digital EP will:
Manage a team of digital producers
Manage the daily workflow including stories, videos, livestreamed events, social media and special reports
Assign and edit stories - make strategic decisions for content creation and placement
Set and maintain content standards on all digital platforms
Be the go-to source in the newsroom for information on using content management tools and digital technology
Coach the digital team on evolving digital best practices
Champion strategic content management for audience growth
Contribute content as needed
Work in tandem with the News Director and other news managers
You’ll be expected to:
Be innovative, user-focused and full of creativity and initiative
Be a newsroom leader
Emphasize breaking news and video
Understand storytelling that includes creating videos and utilizing photos
Think strategically about developing digital audiences and a digital skillset in the newsroom
Evaluate website traffic trends to make decisions on daily content needs and longer-term content curation that will grow local audience
Liaise with Nexstar Digital for best practices, new technologies and digital journalism trends
Assist with special projects – planning and execution
Assist in managing sales content elements that have revenue potential and web user interest
Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by management
The ideal candidate will:
Have a passion for digital news, local news and journalism
Possess strong editorial judgment
Have at least three years of experience with one year of news personnel management experience preferred
Have strong written and verbal communication skills
Have a working knowledge of digital standards and protocols
Have experience with content management systems, WordPress preferred
Be able to edit videos and images
Be able to understand and use state-of-the-art broadcast and digital technology
Have a bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or a related degree
