  Job Summary

  PBS Utah's Politics & Elections Producer/MMJ will help produce the highest-quality coverage of the 2024 elections. The Producer will produce, shoot, and edit political programs and content of varying lengths for a variety of platforms. The Politics & Elections Producer/MMJ should be a creative thinker with strong storytelling and journalistic sensibilities with a collaborative mindset, excellent communication and time management skills, and strong shooting and strong video editing skills. Applicant should be passionate about creating and delivering election coverage and politics programming that adheres to our core editorial standards of Independence, Accuracy, Fairness, Transparency, and Accountability.

  Responsibilities 

  The Politics & Elections Producer/MMJ will co-produce, shoot, and edit an election-themed documentary, as well as co-produce other election coverage that may include debates, analysis, and a voter guide. Other responsibilities include:

  - - Ability to shoot well-framed behind-the-scenes footage with an ear towards who is speaking, what is being said, and who is reacting - Ability to edit using the Adobe Suite - Ability to work collaboratively with others and receive constructive feedback and direction in the spirit it was given - Mostly daytime hours but with occasional nights or weekends especially leading up to the U.S. Presidential Debate on October 9th, 2024 as well as the January/February Utah Legislative Session in 2025.

   

  Minimum Qualifications  

  Bachelor's degree in Communication, Journalism, or a related field, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience), plus three years of directly related experience in instructional or commercial television required.

  Preferences

  Previous MMJ reporting experience in TV or media-related newsroomInterest in Utah politicsDemonstrated communication skills; ability to build trust and understand various perspectives within their team and the community.Ability to write and speak fluently in a second language is advantageous.*Pay Rate Range: *$54,000 to $58,000

  Work Schedule Summary: Day shift, arranged with employer
