  Justworks is seeking a Tax Systems SME for its Payroll Compliance and Tax Research Team to ensure operational and system compliance in support of our Payments, Payroll and Tax business. As a driver of operational compliance, you will be responsible for ensuring tax updates are validated and successfully uploaded to all applicable systems on time.

What You Will Work On

  Coordinate payroll tax related software updates, their validation and successful implementation in support of our payments, payroll and tax engineering and operational teams

  Research and analyze system requirements for new tax changes, noting any compliance gaps and provide insight on new technologies

  Review employment tax legislative updates, assess risk and recommend required system and operational changes to remain compliant 

  Interact with government agencies to represent Justworks in furtherance of our compliance and automation goals

  Collaborate with product and engineering teams to define requirements for new tax payment and reporting products, ensuring alignment with business objectives and compliance standards

  Lead the testing and validation phases of the tax payment and reporting system, coordinating with various stakeholders to ensure system functionality meets end-user needs

  Quarterback new operational and compliance system enhancements, including Robotics Process Engineering, drive and monitor progress through completion and lead post implementation maintenance plan  

  Identify, communicate, and escalate potential compliance risks and system gaps

  Serve as a compliance subject matter expert to troubleshoot issues prior to elevating to third-party vendor and act as liaison for issue resolutions

  Maintain system application SOX compliance and coordinate system support for in and out-of-scope processes

  Assist with resolving deficiencies that arise in audit and compliance validations

  Facilitate regular system review meetings to gather feedback and identify areas for improvement in the payroll, tax payment and reporting system

  Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation on system processes, user guides, and best practices for the tax payment and reporting system to ensure efficient, scalable, and compliant payroll and payroll tax systems

  Organize and lead regular validation compliance efforts to ensure completeness and accuracy of exception data being presented for review

  Monitor and report on key compliance metrics as well as present the status to stakeholders

  Maintain a positive attitude, even in the face of adversity

  Drive and develop improvements where appropriate and perform other related duties, as assigned

Qualifications

  Minimum of 7+ years of project management and/or payroll tax software administration experience

  Software enhancement and/or implementation experience while driving process improvement

  Experience with tax scheduling, payment and filing software

  Experience in defining system requirements and conducting system testing and validation, preferably in tax payment and reporting solutions

  Demonstrated ability to work closely with product and engineering teams in a cross-functional role, bridging the gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  Strong understanding of payroll tax laws and regulations, with the ability to translate these into system requirements.

  Experience with tax research and tax authority sources (i.e. Vertex, federal, state and local authorities)

  Managing data conversions and user acceptance testing

  Strong communication skills 

  Creative problem-solver with a passion for making complex things simple(r) 

  Bonus Points

  PEO experience

  PMP certification

  CPA, FPC or CPP Certification from the American Payroll Association

  An understanding of SaaS SMB products

  SQL knowledge and query development experience

   

  The base wage range for this position is targeted at $155,500.00 to $178,825.00 per year.

  Actual compensation is based on multiple factors that are unique to each candidate, including and not limited to skill set, level of relevant experience, and specific work location.  Salary ranges for positions based in other locations may differ based on the cost of labor in that location.
