  The Senior Director of US State Government Affairs is responsible for representing Cepheid before US State policymakers and related stakeholders and will implement long term plans for all State legislative and Medicaid policy and advocacy work in prioritized states, improving healthcare delivery for Medicaid patients. This position collaborates within the internal and external matrix organization to identify and pursue areas of mutual opportunity with States based on policy and legislative opportunities for Cepheid’s diagnostic tests in clinical applications including infectious disease, women’s health, sexual health and Hepatitis C.

  This position is part of the Government Affairs and Market Access (GAMA) organization and will be located in Washington, DC. At Cepheid, our vision is to be the leading provider of seamlessly connected diagnostic solutions.

  In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  Lead US State Government Affairs initiatives to protect and advance patient access to Cepheid's diagnostics and its business units before policymakers, elected officials, trade and business associations, as well as other allies and influencers.

  Build the reputation of Cepheid US State Government Affairs as the preferred, go-to trusted partner, honest brokers who drive for constructive solutions.

  Establish and maintain relationships with key members of State government agencies and executive offices. This involves identifying key targets, prioritizing resources, networking with their office staffs and developing outreach and grassroots programs.

  Stay apprised of business goals and strategies in order to assess impact to Cepheid from federal, state/regional, executive and regulatory activities. Consult with appropriate internal business leaders in making such determinations, providing recommendations for formulation of action plans.

  Identify health care, economic and other State policy developments that could impact Cepheid’s business and operation. Proactively identify opportunities for Cepheid to pursue favorable State government policies and effectively defend Cepheid against government policies that could harm shareholder interests. Lead efforts of State Government Affairs to positively address these policies.

  The essential requirements of the job include:

  Bachelor’s degree with 12+ years US State-level health policy experience or 10 years of combined State health policy and Medicaid policy experience OR Masters degree in field with 8+ years of related work experience OR Doctoral degree in field with 5+ years of related work experience.

  4 years direct leadership experience

  Demonstrated understanding of State policy related to business implications through experience working in the State Legislature, State Medicaid Agency, Medicaid Managed Care, State-level health care advocacy, health policy consulting, or policy think tank

  Experience working with all levels of management and consulting with key internal business stakeholders, with the proven ability to influence for greater outcome

  Strong strategic and tactical planning skills along with strong written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills

  The salary range for this role is $150,000-$220,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future. This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.

  Ideally, we would like someone HYBRID at our Washington, DC office. We will consider REMOTE candidates for this opportunity.
