Description:
The Technical Sales Engineer role is suited for a highly self-motivated individual who is eager to use their technical education and work experience to help design, develop and sell our products. The Technical Sales Engineer job is a combination of sales, estimating, engineering and product management, working with engineers, distributors and end users. This employee will work with established customers and work to develop new relationships leading to additional business.
Technical Sales Engineer Responsibilities:
• Provide technical solutions to demanding applications.
• Generate equipment selection, price estimates, proposals, sales plans, project documentation and continuing technical support to our customers.
• Promptly present accurate and thorough submittals.
• Punctual with commitments to customers, including timely return of phone calls, e-mails, and attention to project issues as they arise.
• Propose ideas and find innovative new ways of selling.
• Develop and maintain successful customer relationships, both new and existing.
• Establish and maintain a superior level of customer satisfaction.
• Provide strategic recommendations, pricing and solutions to meet customer needs.
• Work with engineering and technical staff to design specific solutions to meet customer requirements.
• Coordinate with the manufacturing team to ensure quality and on time delivery.
• Maintain up-to-date understanding of the market, to include an understanding of the competitive landscape.
• Research and evaluate competitive products and market opportunities.
• Effectively manage quote log and follow up as needed.
• Keep specs current with technology and industry practice to avoid unnecessary job costs.
• Coordinate and communicate order status internally and externally as needed.
• Perform routine sales duties with minimal supervision.
• Provide direction to drafters for drawings.
Technical Sales Engineer Qualifications / Skills:
• Creativity
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Superb written and verbal communication skills
• Outstanding customer service skills to be used with both internal and external customers
• Exceptional organizational skills to be used in all tasks, particularly keeping track of all products that have been quoted (quote log)
• Must have basic technical drawing skills (SolidWorks and AutoCAD preferred)
• Ability to work under pressure with deadlines while having to multi-task multiple priorities
• Attention to detail
• Strong work ethic
• Ability to work successfully and collaboratively with a team
Additional Skills & Qualifications:
Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
• 5 years of demonstrated work experience that encompasses both engineering and technical sales in a manufacturing environment.
• Work experience that has exposed the employee to the industrial sales cycle.
