  About this job

  The Paralegal II's primary focus is to support CarMax’s captive finance division – CarMax Auto Finance (CAF) – as part of the Finance Legal Team. The Paralegal II supports the Finance Legal Team attorneys in providing legal counsel in the area of consumer credit compliance to CarMax Auto Finance, the sales finance company division of CarMax, and general business support involving: consumer affairs, compliance initiatives, regulatory affairs, sales finance licensing and legislative monitoring. The Paralegal II supports the Legal Team by working independently to assist attorneys with dispute and litigation management, research and project management, and/or contracts and vendor maintenance.

  What you will do

  Support the administration of the Compliance Management program.

  Work directly with customers and/or regulatory agencies regarding dispute filings, as directed by supervising attorney.

  Independently monitor, review and analyze pending legislation for relevance; determine and track legislation that impacts the various business functions under Credit Services; and prepare and provide a monthly tracking report to the supervising attorney for final review. Prepare legal analysis summary of passed legislation for attorney review.

  Conduct factual/legal research, digest and summarize information and then compile and present findings, as directed by supervising attorney. Responsibilities including coordinating the gathering of information from various business departments; researching federal, state, and local laws, regulations and administrative guidance; and documenting research conclusions as directed by supervising attorney.

  As specifically directed by attorneys, convey routine information to internal customers regarding legal and/or contractual issues as it relates to the day to day operations of the business.

  Act as a liaison with various internal business departments as well as with outside agencies (e.g. track and conduct follow-up on open internal issues, serve as the point of contact for assigned business groups, coordinate research and/or litigation management with outside counsel, and communicate with regulatory agencies regarding filings).

  Prepare drafts of contracts and/or other legal documentation for attorney review at the specific direction of supervising attorney.

  Purpose of the role

  To perform this job successfully, an individual must have strong written and verbal communication skills and should exhibit strong research, analytical and reasoning skills. This role requires an individual with a proven ability to review and accurately summarize information gathered. This role requires a self-motivated, conscientious individual who has strong attention to detail and a proven ability to work in a highly confidential environment. This role requires an individual with impeccable ethical standards and a proven ability to complete work independently in accordance with scheduled timelines. A candidate should work effectively under minimum supervision with an excellent attention to detail.

  Qualifications and Requirements

  High School Diploma

  College degree and paralegal certificate preferred

  Minimum 2 years paralegal experience

  Basic typing skills including minimum accuracy requirements

  Basic to moderate computer knowledge and intermediate understanding of MS Word and Excel
