Job Description: Litigation Associate

Our client, a well-established 20-attorney boutique law firm located in the Chicago Loop, is seeking a skilled Litigation Associate to join their growing team. With 70+ years of combined experience and a focus on delivering exceptional legal service, the firm has been involved in numerous newsworthy cases across a diverse range of practice areas. The firm maintains a broad practice, representing both plaintiffs and defendants, and prides itself on a collaborative culture driven by client-focused, high-quality legal work.

Role Summary:

The ideal candidate is a motivated and experienced Litigator with 5+ years of experience, preferably from an insurance defense firm background. The Associate will independently manage a docket of cases, conduct depositions, attend court proceedings, and maintain direct communication with clients. The role involves both defense work and plaintiffs work, offering a unique opportunity to grow expertise across complex personal injury defense and high-stakes litigation matters.

Key Responsibilities:

Handle all aspects of case management, including drafting motions, pleadings, and discovery.

Take and defend depositions.

Represent clients in court, including hearings and trials.

Report directly to clients with updates, strategy discussions, and case evaluations.

Strategically manage a caseload that is:

20% focused on defense litigation involving personal injury for self-insured and insurance defense clients.

80% focused on plaintiff litigation, including personal injury, civil rights, mass torts, class actions, nursing home neglect, business disputes, and medical malpractice.

Collaborate with other attorneys on high-profile and complex cases.

Conduct legal research and develop case strategies to ensure favorable outcomes for clients.

Requirements

Qualifications:

A Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and admission to the Illinois Bar.

Minimum of 5 years of litigation experience, ideally in insurance defense work.

Proven ability to independently handle a diverse caseload.

Strong deposition, motion, and court experience.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, particularly for client interaction and reporting.

A proactive, self-starter mindset with excellent case-management skills.

Ability to work collaboratively with the team and manage dynamic priorities effectively.
