  The Humanities Librarian serves as a liaison for the Departments of English, (https://english.as.miami.edu/) Writing Studies, Classics (https://classics.as.miami.edu/) , Philosophy (https://philosophy.as.miami.edu/) , and Theater Arts (https://theatrearts.as.miami.edu/) by providing information literacy instruction and research consultations, developing collections and resources to support learning, research, and creativity, and engaging in outreach programs and initiatives. In addition to liaison activities, the librarian manages the Electronic Theses and Dissertation Formatting Support (https://sp.library.miami.edu/subjects/etd) service for graduate students and coordinates this service with the Graduate School. The Librarian also works collaboratively with colleagues to teach information literacy sessions for First Year Directions courses, and other areas, as needed. This position is located within the Richter Library Learning and Research Services unit of the University of Miami Libraries’ Learning and Research Services division. The department provides support for the College of Arts and Sciences and five other schools and colleges (Communication, Education, Engineering, Graduate, and Nursing) at the University of Miami and works closely with colleagues in the Learning Commons to encourage student use of academic support services located on the first floor of Richter Library.

  ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  Performance:

  Reporting directly to the Head of Richter Library Learning and Research Services (a unit comprised of liaison librarians, full-time staff, and student employees), the librarian is responsible for:

  Initiating and fostering congenial and collaborative working relationships with students, teaching faculty, and researchers in the assigned disciplinary areas to ensure ongoing dialogue about evolving learning and research needs of the university community.

  Offering consultative and instructional services for undergraduate students, graduate students, teaching faculty, and faculty researchers, to advance information and digital literacies and provide expert support throughout the entire research cycle.

  Engaging in resource selection in assigned disciplinary areas and contributing to collection development initiatives, especially related to open access and Open Educational Resources.

  Developing relevant online learning objects, such as web-based tutorials, instructional videos, and research guides for the assigned liaison areas.

  Referring students to academic support services in the Learning Commons, as appropriate, and promoting Learning Commons’ services in information literacy sessions in the assigned areas.

  Collaborating with librarians with functional expertise in research analytics and impact, data and visualization, and GIS, to provide coordinated support for increasingly data- and technology-intensive learning, teaching, and research activities at the University.

  Developing and sharing knowledge of scholarly communications related to the assigned disciplinary areas and supporting use of Scholarship@Miami.

  Collaborating with colleagues in Special Collections (https://library.miami.edu/specialcollections/) , University Archives (https://library.miami.edu/universityarchives/) , Cuban Heritage Collection (https://library.miami.edu/chc/) , and the Lowe Art Museum (https://www.lowe.miami.edu/) , to support curricula in the assigned areas and encourage the use of primary sources in teaching, learning, and research.

  Maintaining familiarity with teaching and research trends in the relevant disciplines.

  Managing the Electronic Theses and Dissertation Formatting Support (https://sp.library.miami.edu/subjects/etd) program in coordination with the Graduate School.

  Providing information literacy instruction for other areas, as needed, including First Year Directions courses.

  Supervising, training, and mentoring student employees, including Peer Research Consultants, and undergraduate fellows, such as Library Research Scholars.

  Participating in the Liaison Librarian Council, which encourages communication between liaison librarians.

  In pursuit of the Libraries’ and University’s strategic objectives, modeling the University’s “DIRECCT” values (diversity, integrity, responsibility, excellence, compassion, creativity, and teamwork).

  Collaborating with colleagues on other projects and programs, as needed and assigned.

  Service:

  Serving on University and Library committees, task forces, interest groups, and teams as appropriate.

  Networking, collaborating and actively participating in local, regional, national, or international organizations.

  Representing and promoting the University of Miami Libraries in professional organizations, as appropriate.

  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  ALA accredited master’s degree or equivalent and experience working in an academic library.

  Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a diverse environment.

  Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and professional development, evidenced through local or national committee work, research, publications, etc.

  Capacity to thrive in the swiftly changing environment of a major research institution and to respond effectively and flexibly to evolving needs and priorities.

  Demonstrated skill in the use of digital research tools and technologies.

  DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  Masters and/or Ph.D. in one of the liaison areas

  Prior experience providing reference and research consultation services in an academic library

  Experience teaching undergraduates in a research university setting
