Equine Microbiome Lab Technician

　　The Equine RandD team has an exciting opening for a Equine Microbiome Lab Technicianat the Purina Animal Nutrition Center.

　　This role reports to the Equine Innovation Manager and directly supports our efforts to improve and support the performance and health of horses through the development of novel tools aimed at supporting the microbiome.

　　This position will be dedicated to the Purina Equine Microbiome Quotient (MQ) platform, which is a combination of products and a service that empowers horse owners to harness the knowledge of their horse's unique microbiome to support their overall performance goals. This position is housed at the Emerging Technologies Center (ETC) at the Purina Animal Nutrition Center. The ETC is a state-of-the-art microbiology and immunology lab that is dedicated to the investigation of novel ways to improve performance of animals through nutrition.

　　The core function of this role is to conduct Next Generation DNA sequencing workflows including but not limited to the techniques below:

　　Next generation sequencing and library preparation for Illumina machinesDNA/RNA extraction, PCR, qPCRProficient working with DNA software, NCBI database, LIMS systems, bioinformatics platformsAbility to work with samples asepticallySupport laboratory functions including but not limited to general housekeeping of allocated workspace, preparing reagents, etc.To maintain good lab practice at all timesTo keep the laboratory and equipment in a good physical condition at all times and perform routine preventative maintenance when appropriate.To maintain a positive, professional and safe working environmentTo maintain current inventory and record keeping of all reagents and supplies and conduct appropriate orderingRequirements:

　　A BS is required (MS preferred) in a science related field, preferably in Molecular Biology, Immunology MicrobiologyExtensive relevant laboratory experience (3-5 years in a molecular biology laboratory)Experience with Illumina 16s sequencing workflowsThis role is non-exempt with typical compensation between $21 - $29 per hour depending on experience level.
