  Department Summary

  The Division of Graduate Studies serves as the institutional home for all graduate students and is the administrative office with ultimate responsibility for policy and procedures relevant to graduate education and graduate students. The Division provides cross-disciplinary experiences, funding, and professional development; advocates for graduate students; and partners with programs for student success. Its programs and services affect nearly 3,500 graduate students and 135 graduate degree programs. The Division’s core purpose is to promote graduate education by fostering excellence, innovation, and inclusiveness across all graduate programs.

  Position Summary

  The Director of Admissions leads the development and execution of institutional graduate recruitment, admissions, and enrollment policy and operations at the University of Oregon. The Director works closely with graduate programs and units across campus to implement efficient and effective graduate student recruitment, admissions, and enrollment strategies informed by data and best practices. Work with graduate programs ranges from campus-wide strategic development and implementation to individual-level consultation and influence. The Director leads central communication efforts to communicate with prospective and incoming students about UO’s graduate programs, utilizing current technologies related to graduate student recruitment and retention.

  The Director oversees admissions processing and must have excellent customer service skills and the ability to interpret and explain policies and procedures to a broad constituency as well as affect policy changes. The successful candidate must be a strategic thinker who is creative and able to create solutions to unique problems.

  Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education.

  • Two years professional experience in the field of higher education.

  Professional Competencies

  • Facility using technology tools for communication, record keeping, and data management.

  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies associated with the job.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to collegially exercise sound judgment in a deadline-driven environment while maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.

  • Experience in long-term planning and evaluation, and using data to prioritize and implement decisions and measure their impact.

  • Experience providing support and working effectively with diverse communities towards the promotion of an inclusive and welcoming educational environment.

  • Ability to lead and empower staff to work effectively.

  Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated success with recruiting and enrolling a diverse student population.

  • Demonstrated success in planning, organizing, and leading a successful college admissions program.

  • Experience in selecting and delivering competitive fellowships and awards to bolster admissions and enrollment success.

  • Experience in web content management.

  • Two years of experience with policy application.

  • Two years of supervisory experience.
