Based in our Elmira, ON location , reporting to the Electrical Manufacturing Engineering Manager, as the Mechanical Design Technologist, you will be responsible for daily tasks within the Manufacturing Engineering team, including Manufacturing Practices, the Quality Management System (QMS) procedures, design and support for NPD, prototyping and continuous Improvement. The successful candidate will have experience in NPD methodologies and tools, and the ability to design and bring new products to market. You will also provide support for sampling, incoming inspection, quality assurance/control, testing, standard work instructions, initial assessment of new products/processes and other duties as assigned.

IN THIS ROLE, Your Responsibilities Will Be:
Lead and support, analyze blueprints, engineering drawings, product and process specifications safeguarding the quality of all products across manufacturing operations.
Perform incoming, in-process and final inspections, first-off and engineering new sample approval checks, provide immediate feedback concerning products deviations.
Help implement concept generation, CAD design, prototyping, and testing.
Ensure that the implementation of the design into production is within the framework of the stage-gate, new product development process, and that the project is on time and meets cost requirements.
Design, validate, and help bring new products to market while evaluating the design's overall effectiveness, cost reliability, and safety.
Ensures the stage-gate product development process (STEP) is applied throughout a project’s life cycle for applicable deliverables.
Plans, tracks, and delivers on technical aspects of project designs that satisfy functional, performance, reliability, regulatory and other internal company requirements.
Work with Engineering to develop manufacturing procedures, carry out work study (standardized work procedures and cycle times) collect and analyze data and samples, assist in preparing estimates, schedules, and specifications, organize and report test results.
Support engineering processes development, PFMEA and Control Plans, machines and equipment specifications required to support new & existing programs.
Performing routing/siting studies and analyses, and preparing associated reports
Create and sustain the standard work (Work Instructions) for assigned manufacturing products.
Apply continuous improvement methods such as lean manufacturing to enhance manufacturing quality, reliability, or cost-effectiveness.
Identify and find opportunities or implement changes to improve products or reduce costs using knowledge of fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment, assembly methods, quality control standards, or product design, materials, and parts.
Drive the development of new technologies to improve quality, and efficiency and reduce cost.
Determine root causes of failures using statistical methods and recommend changes in designs, tolerances, or processing methods.
Promote and support organizational goals and culture adhering to department key indicators.
Operate within the guidelines of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and support the company philosophy of 12 Safety Behaviors
Assist with special projects, initiatives and other duties as required to meet the needs of the business related to the Manufacturing Engineering Department

REQUIRED Education, Experience & Skills
Technical diploma or degree in the field of Mechanical Engineering
Excellent ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, blueprints, bills of materials, and GD&T combined with quality assurance and control experience.
Demonstrated Mechanical/Automation manufacturing experience.
Hands on experience with measuring tools and testing equipment
Design for Manufacturing (DFM) / Design for Assembly (DFA)
Knowledge of New Product Development (NPD) methodology and tools
Knowledge of engineering analysis and mechanics
Ability to form effective multi-functional working partnerships within the organization; ability to work effectively across functional lines in a matrixed environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication with good presentation skills with the ability to train others
Ability to prioritize work with minimal supervision and guidance.
Familiarity with electrical and mechanical engineering, heat transfer, product testing, IEC standards, building codes for Canada and USA is preferred.
8+ years of related experience in mechanical or electromechanical product development
Experience with AutoCAD
Proficient in Microsoft Office software programs, including Excel (including: Vlookup, Pivot Tables, SQL), Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Legal authorization to work in Canada – sponsorship will not be provided for this position.
PREFERRED Education, Experience & Skills
Solid experience with production design engineering, and suppliers to provide components and assemblies that meet or exceed specified QMS requirements.
In-depth knowledge of component design, fabrication methods, manufacturing, assembly and ISO9001
Experience with Oracle and SharePoint are an asset
Preferred designations: CQE, CQM, ASQC accreditation, IS09001 training, 6 Sigma, SPC, process control methodologies
