Job Summary: The Coordinator - Community Resources (/Wellness Services) supports library users by connecting them to services, resources and opportunities that reflect their needs, particularly in the areas of housing, employment, mental health, and other social services. The Coordinator supports and consults with library staff system-wide working with vulnerable library users, and supervises a team of library-based social work interns in their work across the library system.
Through advocacy, counselling and expertise in the field, the Coordinator will help create the social work in libraries framework at Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh ("CLP"). By project planning and design, program evaluation, data collection, and systemwide collaboration, the Coordinator will set the standard for community resource sharing and patron social work within the Library. Their work enables the Library to add value to existing information and referral resources through a deeper understanding of needs and available resources.

*Essential Functions: *
Responsible for the creating and development of a library-focused program for the provision of social work services and referrals to library users, and drafting plans for potential expansion; Models CLP's Standards of Service and engages directly and/or supports the direct engagement of library users in library locations, online and in community venues offering specialized in-person and virtual human services and programs, including assessing individual needs and providing community resource information services and referrals; Works directly with library users through active, in-person engagement, programming and outreach; Assists library users of all ages with navigating, interpreting, and referring to programs or information, with a focus on those experiencing homelessness, mental health or substance abuse issues, or other social needs; Understands, advocates for, and engages on behalf of the needs of customers within the community and within the Library. Refers customers to resources outside the Library; acts as liaison between the customer and referral sources. May advise system-wide in making strategic referrals; Evaluates success and continuously works to improve programs and services to respond to changing needs through data collection and analysis; and contributing to the vision of a future-focused library; Understands and models the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh brand, mission and Service Standards every day by taking an active role in the provision of human services to our customers; Educates staff on available resources and preferred approaches to provide valuable and empathetic services and information; Supervises social work providers within CLP, the CLP Social Work Intern program, and coordinates with community educational internship providers; Consults with Library leaders on issues and initiatives to provide guidance and perspective on the impacts on vulnerable persons and communities; Actively participates on the Safety and Security Committee, and other committees as appropriate; Serves as liaison between the Library and community service providers; Develops partnerships with organizations and community agencies to maximize library and community services, ensure seamless coordination and provides referrals to service agencies to support identified needs, including housing, employment, education, income, food insecurity, health care, etc.; Providing one-on-one assistance to library user social service needs over the phone and electronically; Develops services and programs for the public that foster the spirit of inclusion and equity within the Library, such as coffee circles, resource fairs, and specialized programming targeting the needs of vulnerable library users; Mentors and supervises the Library Social Work Interns and library staff on working with library users experiencing homelessness, mental health or substance abuse issues, or other social needs; Works collaboratively with security team to support trauma-informed responses to behavioral changes and assisting in de-escalation of behavioral incidents or crisis situations; Provides support and guidance to managers as needed; Performs other duties as assigned. *Competencies and Qualifications: *
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain culturally effective working relationships with individuals from various groups and backgrounds which include employees, team members, and community members; Ability to translate best practices into strategies and action and remain committed through complexities and challenges; Demonstrated knowledge of and the ability to provide crisis intervention, and individual and group counselling; Demonstrated knowledge of trauma informed practices; Excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills, with an emphasis on cultural competencies and understanding; Ability to negotiate with all levels of staff to accomplish the mission and goals of the Library; Knowledge of and proficiency with current Microsoft Office software, including M365, Teams, SharePoint, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook and other relevant software or hardware; Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality of sensitive information; Ability to understand CLP's organization, services, locations and policies. *Education and Experience: *
Master of Social Work degree, with two years of recent experience providing support in this field; Five years of experience working with people experiencing homelessness, substance abuse, and/or mental health diagnosis; Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience; Experience with project planning and design, program evaluation and data collection; Experience working with children, teens and adults in an urban setting preferred;or, An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. *Clearance Requirements: *
