As a Control Systems Engineer, you will design and develop control systems for solutions in Amazon Fulfillment Centers robotics, precision conveyance, barcode readers, and other sensors. You will participate in large-scale control engineering projects, supporting global deployments of equipment. This position will be filled with a candidate identified as a future leader, capable of driving AFT into the lead of Industrial Control Systems design.The team manages a fleet of machines at a scale only possible at Amazon. Standardization and automation are key to our ability to scale. We develop world-class automation management techniques, then share these best practices with other teams and solutions within the company. We partner with teams, internal and external, to provide good products to our Operations partners in our FCs and to ultimately provide our end customers with their shipments, at the speed and quality they have come to expect from Amazon.Key job responsibilitiesWrite PLC code (ladder logic & structured text) & HMI applications to control automation related to packing and shipping customer shipments. Design automation platform for internal clients. Manage configurations of remote devices including barcode scanners, weigh scales, dimensioning equipment, conveyors, label applicators, and printers. Provide support and training of site technicians and commissioning engineers. Provide oncall support to support Amazon Fulfillment Centers. Maintain equipment specifications and review vendor submissions to ensure compliance.A day in the lifeEvery year, we make ambitious goals around the automation we will deliver. From these goals, we create quarterly plans, then run regular sprints to methodically execute these plans.We start each day with a standup where we note our progress, remove barriers, and coordinate with our small team. We then reserve time for dedicated design, documentation, and development. Each team member is responsible for their own projects and tasks, but we leverage other team members for design and code reviews.Roughly every 5 weeks, each team member handles our on-call rotation where we support our expansive fleet of machines deployed in our network of buildings.
