  Job Description

  The Communications Specialist II, under general supervision, writes, edits, designs and assists in the production of informational and promotional materials, presentations and special events. This positions is funded by a grant or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of grant or restricted funding.

  This position may pay more than the minimum proposed salary listed above, depending on experience and/or qualifications of the selected candidate.

  Responsibilities:

  Conceptualize, create, and edit compelling content spanning press releases, website content, newsletters, and other communication materials. Ensure consistency in messaging and branding across all communication channels. Manage the creation, distribution, and tracking of press releases to ensure maximum coverage and impact. Play an active role in coordinating and supporting various events, contributing to their success.

  Assist in executing comprehensive communication strategies by contributing innovative ideas and practical insights. Collaborate closely with the Assistant Director of the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (CAFNR) to develop and refine strategic communication plans.

  Manage executive-level correspondence, ensuring accuracy, professionalism, and alignment with organizational objectives. Oversee the tracking portal for project needs, ensuring timely execution and meeting project milestones.

  Utilize social media analytics tools to track and leverage performance metrics for optimizing communication strategies. Act as the lead Communications Specialist, guiding the team on effective social media engagement practices. Conduct media training sessions to prepare spokespeople and staff for effective communication with the media. Foster and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, media outlets, and industry influencers.

  Participates and assists in college-wide events, activities, and committees and performs other duties inclusive as deemed necessary.

  Required Education & Experience:

  Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.

  Two years of proven experience in communications, public relations, or a similar role.

  Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.

  Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

  Ability to present information clearly and concisely.

  Preferred Qualifications:

  Experience working in an academic or educational institution setting.

  Familiarity with content management systems and design software.

  Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a keen eye for detail.

  Proficiency in leveraging social media platforms and analytics tools for communication strategies.

  Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines with precision.

  Excellent interpersonal skills with the capability to build and maintain professional relationships.

  Familiarity with event planning and execution processes.

  Knowledge of branding principles and adherence to brand guidelines stems and design software.
