PURPOSE:
This position provides advanced administrative services support to the Director of Boards and Commissions within the Office of the Governor. This work entails the recruitment, nomination, and appointment of individuals to serve on Boards and Commissions by the Governor. Responsibilities include research, preparation, and planning for key meetings and legislative hearings in addition to communications and direct contact on behalf of the Director with the public, potential appointees, state agency directors and staff, board administrators, and other officials. Responsibilities require the use of independent judgment, initiative, and decision-making on complex administrative matters.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of principles of organization and office management.
Knowledge of State Government and Legislative process.
Ability to compose, review, and edit complex and/or technical correspondence and legislative testimony.
Ability to use discretion and judgment in dispensing information.
Ability to utilize current office software.
Ability to conduct research, gather information and analyze results to reach a conclusion and/or make recommendations.
Ability to develop and recommend new work methods and administrative procedures to improve workflow.
Ability to effectively plan and adjust work operations to meet planned and unexpected change.
Ability to effectively represent the Director and Governor at Legislative confirmation hearings.
Ability to understand and promote goals of the administration.
Ability to draft nominee press releases.
Ability to understand and interpret relevant statutes and applicable rules, regulations, and policies for recruitment, nomination, and appointment of members to boards and commissions.
Ability to establish work objectives and assess progress.
Ability to initiate, coordinate, implement, and evaluate administrative activities.
Ability to adjust program/work operations and objectives to meet planned and unexpected change.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Training, education, or experience in high level administrative support work that demonstrates: 1) thorough understanding of State Government, particularly the Executive and Legislative Branches 2) proficient knowledge and competency in applying modern office practices to perform advanced administrative support tasks at the statewide level that are broad in scope or functionally diverse, and 3) the ability to use independent judgment, initiative, and decision making on complex administrative matters.
