The mission of the Division of Retirement is to deliver a high quality, innovative, and cost-effective retirement system to Florida Retirement System (FRS) pension plan members and their employers, so FRS members can plan for their financial future. The Work You Will Do :
The Bureau of Retirement Calculations is an organizational unit of the Division of Retirement. The Bureau Chief manages a staff of 40 employees consisting of three sections: State and County Agencies, Educational Agencies, and Special Operations. Work is performed under the general direction and guidance of the Deputy Director of Member Services. The Bureau is responsible for the determination and processing of Florida Retirement System (FRS) Pension Plan retirement benefits and associated functions, Health Insurance Subsidy (HIS) for Investment Plan members, Florida National Guard retirement benefits, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) supplemental retirement benefits.

Your Specific Responsibilities :
Specific key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
As it relates to the Pension Plan, the Chief oversees the determinination of eligibility and cost for claiming various types of additional creditable service, determining eligibility for service retirement benefits and the Deferred Retirement Option Program, providing members with estimates of future retirement benefits to assist in planning for future retirement, processing retirement applications and determining final benefit amounts. The Bureau also processes applications and determines retirement benefits for eligible Florida National Guard and IFAS Personnel.
Coordinate the issuance of the Member Annual Statement that is provided to more than 500,000 active members of the FRS Pension Plan each year. Directly communicate with employers, members, attorneys and other individuals, orally and in writing, in response to technical and complex questions regarding matters relating to administering the FRS Pension Plan. Review educational materials developed for Investment Plan and Pension Plan and make recommendations for content to ensure that the materials are factual and consistent with Division policy.
Responsibilities for Investment Plan members include determining creditable service and vesting, providing present value transfer amounts or buy back cost for possible second elections, processing the actual buy back into the pension Plan once the election is made. This includes coordination with the State Board of Administration and third-party administrator of the Investment Plan as well as other third parties and the as needed. Determine the eligibility for and processing of the Health Insurance Subsidy for Investment Plan members.
Directly coordinate the Bureau's responsibility to provide members and attorneys information to determine the marital portion of a member's retirement benefit, used in dissolution of marriage to develop a Qualified Domestic Relations Order (QDRO) that divides the member's benefit at retirement under the Pension Plan, or for immediate distribution from a member's Investment Plan account. This process includes coordination with the Division's Legal Office and the State Board of Administration and its Contractors.
Provide managerial direction to the bureau staff by planning, developing, and communicating the goals and objectives of the bureau and division. The Chief develops and recommends legislative and operating budgets for the bureau, and is responsible for budget administration, policy interpretations, and organizational management and support.
