Are you studying GIS and want to gain practical hands-on experience? The Connexus GIS Department is working on a 3-year system wide data model migration. This position will support the GIS staff to update the electronic model of the Cooperative’s electric distribution system, support, and train users of the GIS system, resolve minor issues and errors in the system, produce ad-hoc paper maps, and ensure GIS data is accurate and available to other users. The internship is a temporary position requiring full-time hours during the summer of 2024 with the possibility of part-time hours during the 2024-2025 school year. This temporary position is not eligible for benefits or relocation at this time.

Key Responsibilities and Results
Update and maintain the near-real-time enterprise GIS data model of the distribution system from completed engineering designs and follow standards and requirements.
Support Connexus internal enterprise system and users to reflect the as constructed state of the system for operations and safety.
Manage daily workload from backlog queue of designed work.
Resolve conflict errors in GIS data and work with crews, design, or operations to resolve errors.
Accurately model system changes and related data to ensure that the Enterprise GIS data supports the distribution system.
Review and map work orders accurately and with adherence to mapping standards, applicable GIS rules, and the rules of electrical connectivity.
Obtain information from other enterprise systems as required to validate correctness of mapping data and to solve discrepancies.
B. Produce paper/electronic maps and reports by request of internal and/or external users.
Required Education and Expertise:
High school diploma or equivalent
Enrolled and pursuing a 2 - 4 year degree in GIS\Geography, engineering, surveying, or related field
A valid Minnesota Driver’s License
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Hands-on experience with ESRI ArcGIS 10.x software
PC skills utilizing Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word, SQL Server Management Studio, Power BI)
Ability to read and create technical diagrams and schematics
Ability to clearly communicate information and ideas both verbally and in writing
Ability to research easement documentation records
Ability to interact well with all people
Ability to read maps
Ability to stand, sit, walk, bend, and reach
Repetitive motion: Keyboarding
Skilled in reading, interpreting, and updating maps and GIS
