  Department Summary:

  The Tactical Air Dominance Department (N151) is transforming warfighter operations by accelerating the fielding of advanced families of weapon systems through digital acquisition, advanced simulation and emulation, resilient communications, and autonomy experimentation. Our work programs contribute to the United States Air Force Operational Imperatives where we are enabling the warfighter to execute current and emerging kill chains effectively and efficiently in highly contested environments.   Our department is seeking a collaborative, risk-taking, and innovative Weapon Systems Futures (WSF) Group Leader. The WSF Group Leader will be the direct supervisor for a diverse team leading digital acquisition for new and emerging weapon system capabilities and applied technologies for tactical air dominance programs. The WSF Group Leader will supervise, lead, and provide quality oversight of work. In addition, the WSF Group Leader will be focused on staff development, technical expertise, delivery of high-quality technical products, and assist and grow the group’s capability. The WSF Group Leader will help shape and evolve department/division outcomes by actively working as part of the leadership team to support and craft the organization’s strategic direction, identify new opportunities and initiatives, and lead related activities. Applicants should have a track record of leading people, innovative thinking, and collaborating across boundaries. The Group Leader position is critical to staff and department/division outcomes.

  Roles and Responsibilities:

  The selected candidate will be the direct supervisor (DS) for 6-8 assigned staff and responsible for providing technical support, conducting regular performance and development conversations, staff advocacy and recognition, and communication with Project/Task Leads on performance. The selected candidate will serve as the main point of contact for new employee onboarding and as a resource to guide staff in navigating the MITRE organization and processes. The selected candidate will support regular communication between staff and Project/Task Leaders, serve as a proactive liaison between staff and Department and Division management, and seek collaboration opportunities across portfolios and centers while facilitating an open sharing of program and/or technical area knowledge with other managers and staff.

  The Weapon Systems Futures Group Leader responsibilities include:

  Partnering with Project Leaders to identify appropriate project opportunities where staff can leverage skills they have and continue to develop new skills.

  Helping staff craft impactful goals that will challenge them to focus on forward movement that has an impact.

  Working to ensure staff contribute to and are accountable for customer outcomes, and maximize employee potential, motivation, and engagement.

  Ensuring that staff are constantly involved in project work and learning opportunities that align with career aspirations and development plans.

  Soliciting and providing regular feedback to staff to help them grow.

  Managing challenging interpersonal dynamics and performance concerns amongst staff members, colleagues, and the project leaders/task leaders they support.

  Being the first‐line supervisor and the primary point of contact on human resources matters for the staff in their Group (to include participating in the annual performance and compensation cycles for their employees by assessing performance and recommending salary adjustments and promotions).

  Actively assist with shaping Group and Department work programs and capability investments.

  Work with the Department Leadership to forecast workforce levels, skillset demands, and strategies for staff development, recruiting, hiring, or training to address execution needs.

  Ensure the technical quality of the group's work products.

  Serve on the Department Leadership team in executing its strategy.

  Represent the Department and/or Division in ad hoc efforts/events.

  Work closely with other organizations and identify domain specialists to provide technical mentorship for the staff across various technical skillset areas.

  Minimum Qualifications:

  Bachelor’s degree in a STEM related field and 8 years related experience; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

  Active Secret Clearance and ability to acquire TS/SCI clearance.

  Ability to coach, mentor, and advocate for all levels of staff

  Excellent written and verbal communications skills

  Ability to formulate group level and department-level goals, and the persistence to execute until those goals are achieved.

  Desire to develop early career staff and navigate career options/paths at MITRE.

  Proven track record to try new things and achieve significant work program, sponsor, or organizational outcomes.

  Preferred Qualifications:

  Master’s degree in a STEM related field and 6+ years related experience.

  Active TS/SCI clearance

  Demonstrated experience working collaboratively across challenging/diverse sponsors/stakeholders to propose, shape, and lead impactful FFRDC work which aligns to MITRE’s brand and organizational strategic vectors.

  Demonstrated experience building highly collaborative teams.

  Demonstrated experience enabling and ensuring technical quality of deliverable products.

  Strong knowledge of MITRE/MNS/A&SFC project execution/stewardship tools & processes

  This requisition requires the candidate to have a minimum of the following clearance(s):

  Secret
