About WATER TREATMENT PLANT OPERATOR

  Summary You will serve as a WATER TREATMENT PLANT OPERATOR in the NUCLEAR PRODUCTION MANAGER DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD. Responsibilities You will maintain proper chemical requirements while ensuring one hundred percent accountability of water moved. You will perform water tests and measurements that require a working knowledge of various chemistry and radiological components. You will operate processing tanks, filters, system pumps, flow meters, complex valves, and various system gauges. You will prepare metal surfaces for painting and inspection by using hand and power wire steel brushes, sanders, grinders, or other various site preparation tooling. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Comprehending engineering drawings and specifications related to radioactive liquid waste processing systems and radiological repair facility support systems; Operating and adjust pumps, valves, and feeder systems; Must know the location and purpose of all the equipment in the water treatment facility; Inspecting, maintaining, and is responsible for the Mixed Waste Accumulation areas throughout the facility; Performing both non-filtration and filtration processes to change the radioactivity or chemistry of the water; Operating equipment associated with wastewater treatment such as velometers, anamathorms, and particulate detection units.
