POSITION SUMMARY

The Water Treatment and Wastewater Plant Manager is responsible for the overall operations and maintenance of a water or wastewater treatment facility. This position requires a strong understanding of water and wastewater treatment processes, relevant regulations, and the ability to lead a team of operators.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversee all aspects of plant operations, including influent and effluent quality, chemical feed systems, and process control.

Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental regulations.

Develop and implement safe work practices and maintain a safe working environment.

Supervise, train, and evaluate plant personnel.

Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs for plant equipment.

Conduct or oversee routine sampling and analysis of water and wastewater.

Prepare and submit reports to regulatory agencies.

Manage and troubleshoot plant process problems.

Stay up to date on current trends and technologies in the water and wastewater treatment industry.

QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree in an associated field ( preferred but not required )

Minimum of five years of experience in water or wastewater treatment plant operations, with at least three years in a supervisory role.

Possession of a valid state Water Treatment or Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certification (may vary by location)

Strong working knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes

Excellent understanding of relevant federal, state, and local environmental regulations

Proven leadership and supervisory skills

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

Proficient in computer software applications, such as spreadsheets and word processing

Water Treatment Operator Class 1, EPA Operators Safety Certification, OSHA Safety Certificate

OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Experience providing excellent customer service in supporting contract responsibilities

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment handling multiple tasks at a given time and rapidly adapting to changing priorities and schedules and under pressure of deadlines while maintaining performance standards

Bilingual (English/Spanish) highly desired

EDUCATION

This position must have a bachelor’s degree in nutrition and dietetics from an accredited university or equivalent work experience.

This position may be located in an environment with harsh and dangerous working and living conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly be exposed to extreme and austere environment. Employees must be willing and able to perform regular job requirements in this austere, extreme environment. Employees must be willing and able to perform physical activities including, but not limited to, heavy lifting and moving of items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum; climbing in and out of equipment; crawling; and working outdoors. This includes being able to lift and carry 40 pounds of personal protective equipment for extended periods of time.
