  Description

  Carnegie Mellon University's unique Department of Engineering and Public Policy (EPP) is looking for outstanding researchers in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and public policy with empirical, analytical, and policy interests to join its faculty for a tenure-track position (open rank).  We are looking for colleagues who are interested in using artificial intelligence to address public policy problems and/or who are interested in advancing research in public policy applied to how artificial intelligence develops and is used. We are looking for colleagues who can both publish in top disciplinary journals and contribute to our interdisciplinary working groups, applying science and engineering knowledge to major public policy problems. Current EPP topics include education policy, climate change, energy, technological innovation, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, telecommunications, transportation, air quality, public health, and medicine. Our faculty have broad disciplinary training, strong analytical skills, and a passion for changing the world.EPP is deeply committed to creating a community that values professional advancement and quality of life for its members (staff, students, and faculty). It has strong academic ties with other CMU departments and institutions. It has strong public policy and public service ties, locally, nationally, and internationally.   Qualifications

  Applicants should have a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline. They should demonstrate competence in research and teaching and a commitment to collaborative work, public service, and inclusive and equitable practices. The tenure-track appointment will be made at a level commensurate with the experience of the successful applicant.

Your statement should include initial research projects that can be immediately pursued with graduate students, given your current expertise, and for which external funding can realistically be sought. Statements also should include a longer-term vision with more far-reaching plans and may reference potential collaborato s in the department or elsewhere at CMU (up to two pages);a teaching statement: outlining both your experience and philosophy, as well as a list of courses you are interested in teaching (up to two pages);a collaboration statement: how you hope to engage with other members of the department and university;a diversity statement: outlining how you have contributed to as well as plan to contribute to diversity, inclusion, and equity (up to two pages);name and contact information for three individuals we might contact for letters of recommendation.We will review all applications received before January 5, 2024, and continue accepting applications after that date until the position is filled.
