Job Description
TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE I, Biological Engineering (BE), to join the laboratory of Professor Ernest Fraenkel and participate in fast-moving research projects in computational biology. The position entails working both independently and in a small team as a skilled programmer who assists with research on human disease. The main responsibilities will include bioinformatic analysis of data using existing software, evaluating data quality, maintaining and organizing large sequencing data sets, and streamlining software pipelines. Another important component consists of curating metadata, coordinating the transfer of data, and performing quality checks on all data received from collaborating institutions in the Answer ALS consortium. Will perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: B.S. degree in a quantitative field such as engineering, applied math, computer, science, bioinformatics, or a related field, including some coursework in basic biology; at least two years of bioinformatics experience (may include intensive lab classes and undergraduate research projects), including familiarity with omic data types such as sequencing data and/or proteomics; strong programming skills in a high-level language, especially Python and R; proficiency with Linux/Unix-based environments and Shell scripting; experience working with high-performance computing environments; and experience applying statistical methods toward data analysis. Seek a self-motivated individual who can demonstrate problem-solving and organizational skills and is able to work independently and as part of a team and understand current areas of research. PREFERRED: experience with GitHub, basic web programming, and software development; experience coordinating with external teams, managing/curating large data sets, and working with AWS; and experience working with sequencing data (specifically ATAC-seq).
