About Shelter Manager

  Position Summary: The Shelter Manager is an hourly position reporting directly to the Shelter Supervisor. The Shelter Manager provides case management and support services to Reachs emergency shelter residents.

  Tasks, skills, and knowledge common to Reach staff:

  Assist in answering the 24-hour crisis line as requested.Rotate being on-call as requested.Assist in agency fundraising events as requested.Represent Reach in the community and multidisciplinary meetings, on task forces, etc., as requested.Provide client advocacy as appropriate.Attend staff meetings.Excellent time and organizational management skills.Excellent communication and networking skills.Ability to learn and adapt quickly to environments.Be flexible and eager to learn new things.Show initiative, be self-motivated, and resourceful, with the proven ability to prioritize, multi-task, and operate successfully under tight deadlines and time pressures.Enjoy a fast-paced, dynamic, challenging, and team-oriented work environment.Other tasks assigned by the supervisor.Primary Job Duties:

  Complete an immediate needs assessmentComplete shelter admission orientation, including shelter policies, rules, and operational procedures.Provide information and referrals to residents and on the crisis line.Provide emotional support and advocacy to residents.Transport clients to necessary appointments or errands.Maintain systems to ensure safety precautions are being taken (e.g., medications locked, alarm system operational, the house is child-proof, etc.).Maintain cleanliness of shelter; daily inspection of all residential rooms and residential chores related to shelter upkeep.Implement a house maintenance plan with the Shelter Director.Properly record and put away donations that arrive while on shift.Supervise shelter residents in observance of shelter rules and regulations.Maintain client database.Record shelter resident activities during the shift.Job Specifications:

  2-year degree in health and human services or a related field, with at least two years working experience in a related field.Strong writing, reading, listening, and speaking communication skills.Computer literate in MS Word, Excel, and other programs.Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
