Description
Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world. You will design, craft, and deploy reliable embedded software for large quantity of consumer electronic products. Kuiper is breaking new ground with every device we design, and you will be an integral part of bringing this family of products to customers.
A day in the life
As lead of the Terrestrial Applications software engineering team you will be responsible for leading the design of embedded software used in the Project Kuiper customer terminal products. You will work in a collaborative environment with teams inside and outside of Amazon. You will mentor a team of software engineers on best practices while you guide software designs from requirements gathering through mass production. You will need to be flexible and responsive to high priority issues. This role will not have people management responsibilities.
About the hiring group
The Kuiper Terrestrial Applications Team builds the software powering the devices that connect customers to the Kuiper network. Our applications range from dataplane and antenna control to ephemeris data management and customer notification APIs. We work hand in hand with hardware, product and operations teams to deliver a great experience for our customers.
Job responsibilities
· Develop software for terrestrial devices within the Project Kuiper system.
· Participate in all phases of SDLC including requirements gathering, design, code, test, and code/test coverage.
· Developing software in assembly, C, C++, Rust or other languages
· Familiarity with real-time embedded software philosophies and practices
· Expertise with Linux and RTOS
· Experience validating software on custom hardware, including use of attached test equipment
Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Basic Qualifications
5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
Preferred Qualifications
5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
Experience or interest in using Rust

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $134,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
