The Process Engineer role can be based in Allentown, PA or Irving, TX and reports directly to the Manager, Process Support.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Responsible for providing process engineering support to Carbon Capture projects in cement plant applications, including from pre-Feasibility through start-up, in collaboration with Project Manager and Manufacturing Sites.
Assess and select optimal configuration of a Carbon Capture plant and associated facilities based on CAPEX, OPEX and technical feasibility. This includes effluents management, utilities and degree of integration with the Cement Plant, as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Preparation or review of various engineering deliverables such as Heat and Material Balances, Process Flow Diagrams, P & I Diagrams, Equipment Data Sheets and specifications, Cause & Effect diagrams, isolation philosophies, control philosophies, shutdown philosophies, HAZOP Studies & reports, Operation, maintenance & commissioning manuals etc. and providing necessary engineering inputs to Engineering Contractors, other disciplines, and other departments.
Supports engineering with review of design that meets the requirements set in terms of process safety, operability and availability, reviewing 3D plant models and general layout plan and, by participating in commissioning, start-up and performance tests.
Identify and bring forward opportunities to reduce CAPEX and OPEX by analysing the different systems within a Carbon Capture project. Identify risks and properly define and document mitigating actions that need to be incorporated in the design or at a later stage in the project, including incorporation of lessons learn from similar projects.
Review of contract documents, specifications, datasheets, verification of FEED design & calculations
Lead technical reviews, risk assessments and qualification of supplier designs.
Foster and maintain working relations with assigned stakeholders
Proactively keeps up-to-date with technical developments in the field of carbon capture
Report progress to management and stakeholders regularly
Interacts with key suppliers and vet out the developing technologies as the carbon capture field matures.
In addition to supporting carbon capture projects, process engineering support to the cement plants in North America would be provided as required. Supporting tasks include operational troubleshooting/optimization, process evaluation, emissions compliance support, data collection, analysis and training.
Qualifications :
Must have 5+ years’ experience in Cement Manufacturing, Oil & Gas or Chemical industries
Cement manufacturing knowledge is a plus, however training will be provided when needed to bring the candidate up to speed on the cement process.
University/College degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent degree.
Experience working in project development, (Feasibility Studies or FEED) and execution. Commissioning and plant operation experience is preferred.
Knowledge / Experience in technical safety reviews such as HAZID, HAZOP, SIL
Knowledge / Experience with gas compression systems, specifically CO2 compression and transport is a plus.
Knowledge in piping and process systems design, process simulations, complex control schemes, heat transfer equipment including preparation of system design specifications, flow diagrams and standard operating procedures.
Experience in process and equipment simulation tools such as PRO II, Promax, Protreat, HYSYS will be considered an asset.
Must possess superior engineering skills and be capable of interacting with all engineering disciplines. Able to apply process engineering techniques to concept & detailed designs, detailed estimates, component selections, troubleshooting, and commissioning activities.
PMC or Owner`s Engineers experience in capital projects is a plus.
Ability to travel is a must.
Strong Communicator and proficiency in English
Ability to set and maintain high standards of self-performance with responsibility and accountability for successfully completing assignments and tasks.
