This position is for a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer that will work at the OEM Aero/Industrial nozzle manufacturing facility in West Des Moines, IA. This position is for a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer that has experience applying engineering principles in a manufacturing, assembly, and test environment. Senior Engineer will provide technical leadership and mentoring of engineering staff. If selected, the employee will become familiar with Collins Aerospace products, manufacturing objectives and state of the art manufacturing techniques.
Primary Responsibilities:
Technical problem definition and solution in a manufacturing, assembly, and test environment.
Liaison with design engineering on incorporating changes to the designs which improve manufacturability.
Determine the most efficient sequence of operations and workflow and establish methods for maximum utilization of production facilities and personnel.
Conduct studies pertaining to cost control, cost reduction, inventory control through the application of Lean principles.
Prepare cost estimates for proposed projects and evaluate cost factors.
Support as needed design of facilities layout for manufacturing processes and equipment.
Solve Manufacturing Engineering problems of varying levels of complexity.
Develop tools that enable manufacturing, aid process improvement or address safety concerns.
Create assembly work instructions utilizing Microsoft Excel and/or Microsoft Word (SolidWorks Composer experience a plus).
Design & 3D printing of fixtures, laser programming and creation of operator instructions for laser markers.
Assist in resolving eQCPC turnbacks for Manufacturing Engineering.
Utilize the new product introduction process to establish manufacturing build plans for fuel nozzle designs.
Evaluation and disposition of non-conforming product.
Creation and maintenance of production Routings and Bill of Materials.
Work with suppliers to resolve quality or technical issues as needed.
Technical contact with customer engineering as needed.
Conduct compliance reviews to verify conformance to customer requirements and specifications.
Basic Qualifications:
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience
U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required
Preferred Qualifications:
A thorough understanding of lean manufacturing principles.
Proficient user of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). MS Project experience a plus.
Ability to work independently and with small teams.
Machining and/or assembly experience including fixture design, tooling design and Geometric Dimensioning/Tolerancing (GD&T).
Experience with special processes including vacuum brazing, heat treat, TIG/laser welding and EDM.
Experience with 3D printing for tools and/or fixtures.
Project and Budget Management.
SAP experience is a plus.
Design modeling experience (SolidWorks preferred).
Visual basic skills a plus.
Exposure to APQP & PPAP (AS9145/AS13100).
Technical leadership and mentoring of Engineering staff.

The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
