Here’s what you’d do:
The Risk Management Specialist supports the Claims and Risk Manager and oversees the TPA’s investigating injuries and illnesses; determines compensability; contacts claimants, supervisors, and witnesses; sets up claims; corresponds with medical providers and Branches; analyzes and interprets medical reports; pursues subrogation investigations; and prepares correspondence and reports. In addition, the Risk Management Specialist initiates communication with branches and internal stakeholders to resolve claims efficiently and help return employees to work.
You’d be responsible for:
Submit Workers’ Compensation claims in a timely and complete manner to TPA.
Open new WC injuries in the internal claims system (Riskonnect).
Review and analyze all workers’ compensation accident reports
Determine nature of medical treatment received and record accident/treatment information.
Confer with the Branches on questionable or unusual incidents
Initiate the investigation of questionable claims as indicated
Determine when witness statements are required
Develop claim strategies to mitigate cost
Develop and recommend creative resolution strategies
Recommend Nurse Triage programs.
Respond on all significant losses and provide guidance to injured worker on available medical resources; communicate employee’s condition to management
Retain and manage Nurse Case Managers as appropriate.
Coordinate return-to-work plan with branches; obtain medical clinic progress/status reports
Keep in touch with occupational health clinics and physicians as needed
Forward medical progress information to the Branches to keep them informed.
Coordinate/facilitate employee’s return to work; support the Branches; suggest modified duty assignments as appropriate
Track when employees are released to full duty.
Maintain/distribute documentation to ESIS; obtain wage history for submission to ESIS.
Review billings to assure compatibility with established accident and injury treatment plans; confer with TPA on questionable billings.
Coordinate workers’ compensation with TPA when modified work has reached 90-day mark; coordinate with Branch/HR on interactive process.
Litigation management; resolution/outcome management; settlement authority
General oversight of reserve mitigation; work closely with carriers to resolve specific issues.
You might be a good fit if you have:
Bachelor’s degree in business or related field preferred or equivalent work experience
Minimum of 5 years’ experience with Workers’ Compensation Claim management
Knowledge of Workers' Comp State laws, policies, guidelines, and procedures
Knowledge of Medical Clinic Services
Strong written and verbal communication, and organizational skills
Track record of being a quick learner with enthusiasm for assuming and managing new and existing responsibilities efficiently and effectively
Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills having developed personal and professional relationships at all levels of an organization
Demonstrated organizational skill performing with sense of urgency and high levels of accuracy
Familiar with WC insurance, including loss control and claims management
Experience using general management and task management tools
Demonstrated creative and innovative thinking
Effective listening skills, with flexibility in approach to solutions
History of good problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills
Demonstrated strong bias for action and ability to manage to deadlines
WC specific designations or license or related discipline; or equivalent work experience
