Job Summary
The Utah Clinical & Translational Science Institute ( CTSI ) seeks a Research Associate to lead pedagogical strategy and develop the next-generation clinical & translational science and research (T0-T5) workforce.
Well-prepared clinical and translational science and research professionals—faculty and staff—who lead and support the transformation of research impacting human health through collaboration and innovation are in high demand in the academic, entrepreneurial, and government sectors. The Utah CTSI’s workforce development programs address this need by training a skilled, diverse, agile, and multidisciplinary clinical and translational workforce across the University of Utah and its partners. The Utah CTSI’s current workforce development programs include the Master of Science in Clinical Investigation Degree Program, Early Career Faculty Develop Program, Pre- and Post-doctoral Training Programs, a summer research program for Historically Black Colleges and Universities undergraduates, and a research coordinator training program.
In close collaboration with CTSI leadership and the faculty and staff of each program, the Research Associate will direct and oversee the operations, strategic planning, and integration of Utah CTSI’s workforce development programs. The Research Associate will help craft and implement a modern, rigorous, evidence-based curriculum to support and enhance CTSI workforce development programs.
This position will also work closely with colleagues across the University of Utah to support the integration of Utah CTSI’s workforce development programs into a robust infrastructure that supports the technical, operational, and professional development of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows across the Health Sciences.
Responsibilities
Lead pedagogical development, strategic direction, integration, and evaluation of CTSI curriculum and/or content for classes, training programs, lectures, and other educational offerings.
Organizes and chairs the CTSI workforce development committee to ensure coordination, integration, synergy, and mutual reinforcement among all workforce development programs.
Collaborate with program directors to establish core competencies for each learner group (e.g., pre-docs, post-docs, early career faculty) that build in complexity as learner groups advance in career level.Partners with program faculty and staff to establish evidence-based course/program evaluations, identify gaps in current educational offerings, and plan/implement solutions.Provides pedagogical coaching to program faculty (program directors and course directors). Works with faculty to implement active learning, problem-based learning, and other modern pedagogical approaches into their courses/programs.
Facilitates cooperative and collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders to promote alignment and integration of CTSI’s workforce development programs with the University’s research strategy and national initiatives.
Promotes the bidirectional sharing of workforce development resources, innovations, and best practices across CTSI partners and the national Clinical & Translational Science Award consortium. This includes dissemination through peer-reviewed journals (e.g., Journal of Clinical and Translational Science, CBE - Life Sciences Education).
Collaborates with University of Utah education and training offices and stakeholders, including the AVPR -Health Sciences training programs team, to develop best practices in research education and promote integration across university programs.Other duties as assignedMinimum Qualifications
