Principle Job Function:
The Purchasing Coordinator is responsible to direct and manage all purchasing functions (including strategies, policies, procedures, and operations) to ensure an uninterrupted supply of materials and within the guidelines established by management. The principle responsibility of every employee is to aid in the production of superior quality products.
Scope:
The Purchasing Coordinator reports to the Director of Procurement and is responsible for developing and implementing strategies, policies, and procedures for procurement practices across the network and providing guidance as needed. The employee will be required to travel to other sites to evaluate best practices, current strategies, and implement new strategies and practices, and perform training as necessary.
Principle Responsibilities/Essential Job Functions:
Champion cost reduction initiatives and manage key projects.
Develop and implement sound purchasing policies and procedures for procuring materials and services at the most favorable costs and terms with due regard to quality, quantity, service reliability, and corporate standards for ethical conduct.
Monitor supplier market conditions to estimate cost trends and product availability to ensure that positive factors are optimized and negative factors are minimized respectively.
Negotiate Vendor contracts, coordinate purchasing strategies with all material and site leaders across network to ensure best pricing.
Coordinate with Estimating group to ensure material costs are correct.
Prepare material requirement projections.
Manage and drive cost reduction programs.
Create and implement corporate wide procurement KPIs.
Build and develop relationships w/key suppliers to supply all common items across the network, i.e. consumables, janitorial supplies, transportation.
Review, develop, and implement new purchasing procedures, i.e. p-cords, approval process, Kanban, min/max, vendor managed, etc.
Build and develop relationships w/key production commodity suppliers to improve cost estimates and speed to market for new projects.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
BS/BA required w/relevant (operations, business) field of study; or equivalent combination of experience and education.
1+ years of materials management and purchasing experience preferably in contract packaging
Strong working knowledge of inventory planning, forecasting techniques as well as operational systems and warehouse management.
PC-based computing experience (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access). ERP experience preferred.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and superior organizational abilities.
Ability to take initiative, maintains confidentiality, meet deadlines, and work in a team environment essential.
Ability to read, write, and understand English.
