As a Ophthalmic Assistant Trainee, you will receive training to perform clerical functions, basic patient care, ophthalmic testing procedures and initial patient examinations as directed by physician or supervisor.

Responsibilities:
Under direction of supervisor or physician receives and prepares patients for examination or treatment.
Performs initial patient examinations, ophthalmic testing procedures and assists physician with related examinations/procedures as directed.
May perform routine screening tests.
Documents patient information in the patient medical record.
Performs clerical, stocking, maintenance and other related duties.
Other duties as assigned.
Education:
Earned a High School diploma or GED in the U.S.
Knowledge of medical terminology preferred

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work unsupervised or with minimal supervision.
Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Work Experience:
Prior experience in a customer-facing role; prior experience in a healthcare setting in a patient-facing role preferred
Additional formal education or training in ophthalmology may substitute for some or all of the stated experience.
Previous experience documenting exam findings in Epic is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Manual dexterity sufficient to operate medical equipment utilized to perform testing procedures.
Manual dexterity to perform various exams and hold equipment; good eye-hand coordination; may require long periods of standing and walking.
