  About this unit

  4 South is a 44 bed Progressive Neurosurgical unit located in Butterworth. In this role you will be instrumental in the care of general neurology and neurosurgical patients. Our neurosurgical patients are highly complex. We care for spine surgery patients, patients who have undergone craniotomy and craniectomy for brain tumor resection, removal or debulking and elective aneurysm interventions. Our general neurology patients include those who have experienced acute, stroke, seizure, chronic headaches and general neurological disorders including Guillen-Barre Syndrome, multiple sclerosis, and myasthenia gravis exacerbations.

  Scope of work

  Under supervision of a Nurse and following hospital policies and procedures, performs various nursing care tasks and treatments on assigned patients. Performs routine bedside nursing activities including bathing and personal grooming of patients; ambulating, moving and turning patients; assisting patients with bedpans or urinary devices; making patient beds and caring for personal property. Assists in performing additional nursing procedures such as catheterizations, suctioning, irrigating colostomies, applying restraints, giving enemas, douches and sitz baths or pericare.

  Will care for multiple patients with a variety of diagnoses, but a focus on neuroscience patients and have some fall risk patients.

  Orientation

  Orientation for the first week of employment as Nurse Tech requires classes.

  Your availability to meet the requirements to complete orientation would be needed for our inpatient positions. Inpatient Nurse Tech Orientation begins with paid training through 5-6 required classes with our Nurse Education Team on specific dates:

  Feb Orientation Date for non ICU units: 2/26, 2/27, 2/28 ASC: 3/11

  March Orientation for non ICU units: 3/4 , 3/5, 3/6 ASC: 3/18 or late March starts would attend 3/25, 3/26, 3/27 ASC: 4/8

  Monday: Day 1 - NT Foundations 1 – 8am - 4:30pm ALL New Hire NTs are required.

  Tuesday:

  NT Foundations 2- 8am - noon: ALL NEW HIRE NTS are required.

  NT Basic Skills 1pm - 4:30pm: All new hire NTs unless exempt due to experience. (Exempt- prior recent hospital NT experience, nursing students who have completed at least one clinical rotation)

  Wednesday/Friday:

  NT Sterile technique class 8am - 4:30pm - all except exempt students (Exempt - nursing students who have completed at least one clinical rotation)

  3rd week after start date - Monday- 8am-4:30pm Advanced Safety Care - all new hire NTs are required.
