Medical Assistant (MA) - Endoscopy
The ideal candidate for the Medical Assistant position in Endoscopy will have intra-hospital experience.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Clinical Patient Care/Coordination Skills
· Consistently and competently demonstrates proficiency with taking patient vital signs.
· Accurately validates vital signs before entering into electronic health record.
· Collects pertinent patient information specific to procedure type and enters into EHR
· Appropriately identifies patient needs; verifies requirements with provider enters lab order(s) into appropriate system
· Accurately identifies variances in lab values according to department designated parameters and notifies appropriate staff (RN, provider).
· Demonstrates initiative to complete role responsibilities i.e. screening incoming calls, document pre/post patient information, removes intravenous lines according to training protocol
· Maximizes procedure room utilization by assisting with procedure room turnover, patient transfer assistance, cleaning of procedure room equipment
· Maintains patient safety through compliance with Institutional policies and Joint Commission regulations
· Consistently demonstrates appropriate Infection Control practices according to Institutional policy
Technical Skills
· Appropriately uses designated systems, e.g. OneConnect, Ticket to Ride, to track patients according to identified department steps
· Accurately applies enters appropriate CPT codes modifiers
· Accurately appropriately uses the EM calculator to enter appropriate
· Appropriately performs glucometer and iStat QC every morning as an opening responsibility
· Consistently, independently appropriately demonstrates sterile technique when sets up sterile trays and assists in procedures with minimal supervision
· Provides stocking of supplies support, maintaining designated pars, reports expired supplies to endoscopy Leadership · Promptly reports equipment errors/malfunctions to a member of the Endoscopy Leadership Team
Communication Skills
· Confirms patient scheduled appointments, communicating in a professional, clear and concise manner according to designated telephone etiquette script
· Consistently takes initiative to clearly communicate variances in lab results, lab needs, and patient related concerns
· Clearly reports all patient related concerns/variances to appropriate team e.g. physician or RN
· Consistently maintains professionalism when interacting with others
· Fosters a positive team environment through the consistent use of positive, respectful, professional dialogues
Other duties as assigned
Education
Required: High school diploma/equivalent.
Preferred: Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program or US Military medical services training program.
Experience
Required: One year of medical assistant experience. With preferred degree, no experience is required.
