We are seeking a Plant Leader at our Johnson & Johnson Vision site in Limerick. This is one of the largest contact lens manufacturing facilities in the world. You will be responsible for ensuring that key service, quality, safety, innovation, cost, and talent measures are achieved in a manner consistent with the site’s strategic business plans.
Responsibilities:
Deliver Excellence in Execution
Responsible for overall performance of the site and delivery against production plan goals
Ensure quality and compliance for the site; define manufacturing and ISO standards.
Create an environment that prioritizes and holds site leadership accountable for Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS)
Meet cost of conversion goals with an understanding of net cost change and tax implications; drive down costs and waste.
Set site strategy in alignment with network strategy and define operational plan to implement it, aligned with Digital strategy.
Translate business/commercial strategy into clear and compelling goals to engage others around the vision.
Provide clear direction for leadership team (not all have direct reporting relationships to plant manager) to ensure clarity of expectations and responsibilities.
Ensure profitable external relationships and drive engagement with the local community.
Influence across the matrix and collaborate with other functional (e.g., Quality, Engineering, Materials, Finance, IT, HR, Planning) and supply chain leaders to ensure alignment between on-site functional leaders with the broader site goals and priorities.
Plant size ranges from $20M to $200 M Cost of Conversion (without materials costs), with anywhere from 150-200 to 6,000 employees
Complete strategic/value stream projects as they are tied to the business—ensure plant goals are tied to commercial priorities.
Create Life-Enhancing Innovation
Set the innovation strategy to ensure that ‘groundbreaking ideas’ have fertile ground within the facility.
Build diverse talent pipelines and capability for the future leaders of the organization.
Drive continuous improvement through JJPS and functional expertise with improving the strategic goals/broader network priorities.
Balance the tactical everyday execution with a strategic focus to prepare the plant to respond to future internal needs and external trends (customer and market needs)
Build effective working partnerships with site leaders to improve efficiencies and resource capabilities.
Champion for the site across internal network to position the site as a viable manufacturer of new product needs.
Report to Global Platform Leader (GPL) or regional leader
Champion and drive reliability across the site.

Ensure production results while driving a strategic agenda.

Creating Efficiencies and Preparing for Future Business Needs
Will need to continue to drive cost down while maintaining quality standards as the industry is commoditized and industry regulations (e.g., FDA) are tightening.Drive continuous improvement and streamline efforts.
Proactively anticipate and prepare for internal and external competition—lowest-cost and most time critical site will get the work.
Anticipate future resource requirements and the planning needed now to build the foundation for the future state needs.
Make recommendations to the GPL around which initiatives are highest priority within the site, as aligned with the Integrated Road Map and broader organizational priorities.
Benchmark against the supply chain processes of different industries (e.g., automotive, electronics) to bring innovative ideas and processes back into the site.
Influence across the matrix
Leadership model has changed, and leaders must now influence across and through the matrix to achieve results.
Engage others around the vision and strategy to energize the plant and ensure actions are in line with broader network goals.
Work with a leadership team (LT) that does not necessarily report to the plant leader but many report to the respective functional leaders; must set expectations and hold the LT accountable.
Innovation and Organisational Change

Inspire change and innovation while ensuring compliance within the regulated environment (with multiple country regulations)
Build more agility into the culture to get out in front of change initiatives and requirements to create efficiencies and prepare for future opportunities.

Build effective external relationships with universities and affinity groups from which to attract future talent.
Encourage, coach, develop future leaders, some of whom do not report directly into the role.
Perception that there is limited opportunity within sites for employees to advance, so turnover is increasing.

Qualifications
Experience:
Required:
Experience in a manufacturing leadership role at a site level and validated capabilities in getting results and meeting goals.
Demonstrate an understanding of the business and commercial priorities.
Consistent record of responsibility for a regional role in a critical function such as quality, operations, engineering, product support
Proven track record to engage and empower others toward a common goal or vision, particularly when leading through other leaders.
Proven experience in managing against a budget and making decisions that draw upon effective business and financial competence.
Skills proven in influencing and negotiating in situations without positional authority.
Previous portfolio management experience that requires prioritizing projects optimally to deliver on broader business objectives.
Track record of translating broader strategy into operational execution
Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), ISO, FDA and/or other regulatory requirements
Preferred:
Experience with production or operations is integral.
Work with a planning organization or having planning experience.
Experience and exposure to external customers (regulatory agencies, community relationships)
Process excellence/Six Sigma, LEAN manufacturing, JJPS experience
Exposure to multiple business models/environments/segments such as cross sector experience
Exposure to major turnaround, transformation, downturns, shutdowns, or challenge, inspiring organisational change efforts throughout an organization is a plus.
Experience with new product launches
Demonstrate effective leadership at a smaller site before moving onto a larger, strategic site with significantly more complexity.
