  Job Description:

  Ghafari Associates is looking for a MECHANICAL ENGINEER* to join the team. This role will support FORD (see below) and can be FULLY REMOTE, HYBRID or 100% IN-OFFICE in DEARBORN, MI . Ford employees are currently working 100% remote, but frequent Ford sites in the U.S. (many of which in the Michigan area). If you would like to work in an office, Ghafari would be able to accommodate you in our HQ office and/or Ford would be able to find you space as well.

  Ghafari Associates, LLC (in association with Ford Motor Company) is seeking talented professionals to help lead the transformation of our building engineering as we realize a shift toward a more human focused and inspirational experience within our built environments. We recognize the role the built environment has on the occupants and challenge ourselves to progress design thinking in all aspects of architecture, engineering and sustainability. This position will be part of the Ghafari team working exclusively with Ford Motor Company and the Ford Land Architecture/Engineering/Planning division.

  As the owner’s representative throughout the engineering design process, the Mechanical Engineer will engage with the broader team of internal and external design professionals + engineers, alongside strategic consultants to ensure the projects advance in alignment with corporate strategies and design standards, to deliver best in class engineering. Responsible for overseeing the initial project Scope Development + Design Strategy, the Mechanical Engineer will ensure that the project progresses in alignment with strategic engineering + design principles and guidelines throughout the delivery of the project. The Mechanical Engineer will be tasked with overseeing several concurrent projects at various phases of the design and construction process. The day-to-day responsibilities will vary but may include initial concept design creation, drawing review and markups, contract administration and site walks, and overall strategy development.

  Essential Job Functions:

  Review and/or establish project scope, mechanical budget, necessary constraints and design approach with Project Manager and/or client

  Proper communication skills to be involved in design team / owner meetings and communicate directly with the owner and / or owner’s representative

  Prepare feasibility studies and project cost estimates

  Maintain working knowledge of latest building and codes used in the industry

  Formulate and lead design of mechanical systems including HVAC, piping, plumbing, and fire protection

  Perform and/or review calculations and building energy models; formulate design of mechanical systems including HVAC, piping, plumbing, and fire protection

  Create engineering documents using computer aided design (CAD) technology utilizing Autodesk (Revit and AutoCAD) or manually with support from more junior staff

  Edit or draft project specifications

  Conduct field measuring and checking at the construction site

  Review drawings for omissions, errors, interferences , overall quality, content accuracy, compliance with standards and codes

  Review product submittals for design content, specify action to be taken to reach specification compliance

  Maintain organized project file containing project calculations, correspondence, appropriate reference materials, etc.

  Assist with checking, standards review, and maintenance of master specifications

  Develop and mentor less experienced staff

  Perform related duties as assigned

  Employment Qualifications:

  Education and Experience:

  *Candidates are not required to have a professional engineer license, though it is preferred.

  Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering

  Professional Registration preferred

  LEED Accredited Professional preferred

  5+ years of related experience in mechanical engineering (HVAC/building systems)

  Skills/Competencies:

  Proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD, Trane Trace 700 or other building energy calculation software, and Bluebeam

  Knowledge in BIM360 and Carrier HAP a bonus

  Excellent written and verbal communication

  Strong attention to detail
