Oversees multiple administrative tasks for the Access and Resource Services team, including, but not limited to managing the functions and operations of the Knowledge and Creativity Commons and staff oversight. The library assistant works independently; however, the library assistant's work is subject to review when the solution of problems involves new interpretations of applications of established guidelines. The Library Assistant 5 manages all aspects of the evening and weekend operations of the Access and Resource Services team and multiple advanced administrative tasks for the team, including, but not limited to library operations Sunday through Thursday, 3:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. The library assistant transitions the library to overnight access; collaborates with Library and University Public Safety to manage access to the facility and emergencies; and supervises library assistants, student workers, and other support staff. The library assistant works collaboratively to develop policies and procedures, create manuals, implement new procedures and systems, and plans and implements special projects. The work of the library assistant supports and collaborates with the department's team leader in the completion of the team's goals.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSStaff Oversight: Supervise the work of assigned library and student staff. Hire, schedule, train, and manage the daily work of staff, prepare performance evaluations, and monitor and approve student and staff time worked to comply with university policy. Provide relevant information regarding personnel process and upcoming datelines. (25%)Knowledge and Creativity Commons: Manage the functions and operations of the Knowledge and Creativity Commons. Provide first-contact customer service within the Commons to respond to virtual and in person inquiries and makes referrals as needed and verify follow through. Navigate user access within physical and online collections, provide general reference and digital services, oversees spaces, equipment, tools, and directional assistance. Provide definitive information about library policy and procedure and assists patrons with self-services. Write process and policy documentation for areas of responsibility and compiles and develops reports as needed. (25%)Team training and scheduling: Coordinate a variety of staff training and operations activities. Perform multifaceted, specialized duties that require frequent independent application of library policies and procedures. Respond to and handle the most complex issues and problems within the work unit. Manage team meetings including agendas and minutes. Develop policies and procedures, create manuals, develop and implement team training. Continually organize workflow and multiple schedules within the team and with university partners to confirm effective scheduling and a safe and welcoming environment. (25%)Responsible for a variety of support tasks to oversee the facility, including opening and closing services, collaborating with the Public Safety department and library staff to confirm staff and operations schedules, and to ensure a safe and welcoming environment. Make routine contact with safety police and contracted staff, fire, and building services as needed for assistance in safety, security, emergency, and situations. Report outcomes as needed.
