Toole County is looking for a Legal Assistant. An incumbent in this position may be assigned to any County Department that might require such a position. The Legal Assistant performs paralegal/legal assistance in support of a county legal office or court. Assists lawyers by compiling facts, gathering information, organizing evidence or documents for cases. Duties include preparing initial drafts of legal documents according to court rules statutes; conducting research to support legal proceedings regarding specific topics, statutes, case law, court rules, legislative history; conducting legal research under the supervision of an attorney. Prepare written reports used in determining how certain legal proceedings should be handled based on analyzed organized information. Help prepare legal arguments, draft pleadings, motions to be filed with courts, assist attorneys during trials. Organize track files of all important case documents to ensure they are readily available easily accessible to attorneys. Attend workshops, seminars, educational sessions to keep updated on changes in assigned area of departmental responsibility. Perform a variety of miscellaneous duties such as running errands, picking up supplies needed for activities, making arrangements for use of county facilities, setting up tables chairs, etc. Maintain trouble shoot computer systems by diagnosing resolving routine computer equipment software problems, make minor repairs to copiers other equipment, refer problems to other county staff or contractors when needed.
