About Human Services Professional

  JOB REQUIREMENTS: Essential Duties and Responsibilities include thefollowing. Other duties may be assigned. Completes child abuse andneglect investigations and recommends decision on substantiation ofchild abuse and neglect. Takes children into custody as necessary underChapter 48. Functions as Juvenile Court Intake Worker appointed by theCalumet County Court-Juvenile Division. Makes recommendations to Courton disposition of child protection and juvenile delinquency charges.Completes assessments for court as appropriate, and follows up oncourt-ordered services. Writes court reports, testifies in court andfollows up on court-ordered services. Provides communityeducation/consultation/intervention regarding Department services.Maintains case records containing pertinent, accurate and currentinformation; prepares correspondence, reports and other records asrequired. May be assigned to perform crisis on-call duty. It is unlikelyan employee will perform all the duties listed on a regular basis, noris the list exhaustive in the sense it covers all the duties an employeemay be required to perform. Supervisory Responsibilities Provides direction toprofessional and para-professional staff. ***** OTHER EXPERIENCEAND QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in theapplication and interpretation of department policies and regulations.Knowledge of human growth and behavior; social casework principles andmethods; community based human services delivery system and resourcesavailable in the community. Ability to satisfactorily perform thefollowing functions or demonstrate the following skills including:establish therapeutic relationship with clients; make independentdecisions; establish and maintain effective working relationships withclients, co-workers, other agencies and the public; and provide complexservices in accordance with principles common to the specialty of theemployee. Ability to apply laws of confidentiality appropriately.Ability to initiate and utilize relationships to effect change. Abilityto effectively use materials from other disciplines such as: humandevelopment, medical and law enforcement to work with complex socialwork situations.
