　　General Purpose

　　The City of Idaho Falls is currently accepting applications for aGeographic Information Systems (GIS) Intern. This position

　　performs a variety of professional and technical duties related to mapproduction and database updates. Works under the

　　general supervision of the GIS Manager.

　　Essential Functions

　　Assists in the maintenance and revisions of the Geographic InformationSystem (GIS) database for the division. Works to

　　develop and record division needs, sources of existing data, andprocedures to maintain, revise, and create database.

　　Work with the GIS Manager to produce analysis and/or find solutions tocomplex problems.

　　Assist the GIS Manager to prepare, revise, and provide, as necessary, avariety of maps and digital data required by City

　　staff and the public.

　　Performs related duties as assigned.

　　Minimum Qualifications

　　Education and Experience: Has completed at least one (1) year of collegecoursework covering Geographic Information

　　Systems (GIS) OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

　　Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Basic knowledge of GeographicInformation Systems (GIS); basic knowledge of computer

　　software, hardware, and reproduction equipment; familiarity with G.P.S.;basic knowledge of Arc GIS for Desktop.

　　Ability to read, interpret and produce maps and charts with GISsoftware.

　　Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; ability todevelop working relationships with supervisors, fellow

　　employees and public; ability to work in a position which requirescontinuous sitting or standing and concentrated mental

　　applications; ability to understand mathematical/engineeringcalculations; ability to write and read legal descriptions.

　　Special Qualifications: Must possess a valid Idaho State Driver\'slicense.

　　Incumbent of the position performs in a typical office setting withappropriate climate controls. Tasks require variety of

　　physical activities, not generally involving muscular strain, related towalking, standing, stooping, sitting , and reaching .

　　Essential functions require talking, hearing and seeing. Common eye,hand, finger dexterity exists. Mental application utilizes

　　memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability,discriminating thinking and creative problem solving. Periodic

　　travel required in normal course of job performance.
