This application encompasses general farm labor for onions,wheat, corn, beans, carrot seed, onions, and pastures. This job requiresa minimum of 3 months of general farm labor. The lifting requirement forthis position is 60 pounds. The anticipated hours listed represent thenormal work schedule. Due to the nature of these crops, weather, and therequirement to send crops to customers when needed, it is the prevailingpractice to work more or different hours than those listed Full GrowingSeason Commitment: The job offered requires that the worker be availablefor work every day that work is available for the full period ofemployment. The worker agrees to be available for work and perform theassigned work for the assigned employer whenever work is availablethrough the full period of employment. Training: There will be ademonstration period to familiarize workers with job specification andto demonstrate proper harvest methods and other crop specific issuessuch as particular grading and or sizing.

  Irrigation Duties:

  Hand Lines

  1.Connect pipes

  2.Check the alignment of pipe and adjust for proper water distribution

  3.Attach lines to water supply

  4.Prime/Turn on pump

  5.Turn valves to start flow of water

  6.Disassemble lines and carry pipes across fields at specified intervals

  7.Move pipes through freshly irrigated crop and/or plowed fields wheremud may be deep at times

  8.Lift and carry pipe sections weighing approximately 60 pounds on asustained basis.

  Flood Irrigation

  1.Lift gate inside of flooded irrigation ditch/pipe permitting water toflow into bordered section of field

  2.Shovel and pack dirt in low spots of embankment of cut trenches inhigh areas to direct water flow

  3.Close gates in ditch/pipe when bordered section is flooded

  4.Open gate or connect pipe to underground pipe system that releaseswater flow into reservoir or ditch

  5.Siphon water from flooded reservoir or ditch to channel water intodesignated areas

  6.Shovel or hoe soil to clear ditches/furrows and build embankments toappropriately channel water

  7.Mix and apply proper solutions to fill holes/cracks in pipes, ditches,and spillways, and make minor repairs to metal, concrete, and woodenframeworks in pipe and ditch valves and gates

  8.Gated pipe installation and removal. Prime gated pipe system. Open andclose all gates on gated pipes as irrigation management requires.

  9.Direct siphon tubes into specific corrugates to direct water fromditch to field to water crops

  10.Lift and carry siphon tubes down ditch banks

  11.Move and store siphon tubes

  12.Keep siphon tubes in good repair and repair to allow optimum waterflow pressure.

  Wheel Lines

  1.Start gasoline engines and operate controls to move lines acrossfields at specified intervals

  2.Hook up wheel lines to water supply

  3.Move wheel lines when needed

  4.Fix and repair broken wheel lines so that they are in an operationalmanner

  5.Fix and repair any water leaks on wheel lines so that they are in anoperational manner

  Pivot Irrigation

  1.Push on switch that activates circle sprinkler system

  2.Turn on/off pivots

  3.Learn and master operating a pivot

  4.If a pivot is stuck, get it unstuck and in operating condition

  5.Roll up/unroll pivot hoses

  6.Unplug plugged up nozzles

  7.Unplug plugged up hoses

  8.Replace broken nozzles and hoses

  9.Maintain operation of a pivot at optimum level

  Other Irrigation Duties

  1.Remove pipes/wheel lines from storage and lay out/place inpredetermined patterns in fields

  2.Lubricate, adjust, repair, and replace parts such as sprinkler headsand drive chains using hand tools

  3.Observe revolving sprinklers and adjust to ensure proper operation anduniform distribution of water

  4.Disassemble, service, and store pipe/mainlines/wheel lines afterirrigation season

  5.To meet minimum acceptable performance standards when irrigating, theworker must, after a 10-day conditioning period, move an average of atleast 48 40-foot sections of 3-inch pipe per hour under normal workingconditions.

  6.Operation of center pivot irrigation system. Standard repair andmaintenance duties as required such as replacing and maintainingnozzles, hoses, pipes.

  General Farm Work will include the following duties:

  1.Maintain, drive, attach, and operate farm implements, tractors,equipment to till soil, plant, cultivate, fertilize, and harvest crops,also occasionally operating equipment like forklifts

  2.Make mechanical adjustments and repairs on farm machinery

  3.May mix and/or spray chemicals (according to appropriate restrictiveuse laws, when/if applicable) Workers may need to identify weeds,measure chemicals, and be able to operate spray equipment includingspray

  backpack or atvs.

  4.Remove undesirable and excess growth from crops or farm grounds

  5.Remove rocks from fields, edges fields, concrete ditches, etc.

  6.Build, maintain, repair, farm structures

  7.Replace, repair fencing

  8.Perform general clean-up of farm areas

  9.Drive, unload/load semi-trucks

  10.Handling and sorting of produce throughout harvest

  11.Operate motor bike, all-terrain vehicle (ATVs), John Deere Gators,while performing job duties

  12.Workers may attend food safety trainings
