Position Description
The Equitable Community Development Specialist will leverage private/public partnerships to increase equitable outcomes in Metro Nashville. These efforts will address both the racial wealth gap within Metro and displacement of historically underserved communities but also work to ensure other vulnerable populations are essential partners in Metro’s growth and prosperity. For Nashville to remain a welcoming community, more continuous and committed efforts must be made to ensure equitable community development for both new and existing residents . This position will also work to address policies within Metro that serve as barriers to equitable development and prosperity.
Metro Finance has several divisions, including procurement, treasury and management and budget. Department employees provide financial management, information and business products to policy makers, departments, investors and the Nashville community to give them confidence in our government and to help them make informed decisions.
This is a position that is eligible for a hybrid work schedule and can telecommute.
Typical Duties
Lead efforts to address internal policies that serve as barriers to equitable development and prosperity through coordination with relevant Metro departments.
Oversee economic development programs funded by both private and public partnerships.
Foster and maintain relationships with local community partners and business leaders to better understand the economic landscape of the city.
Collaborate with relevant partners on the development of the residential workforce.
Research and maintain knowledge of displacement and equitable development.
Prioritize tangible, incremental, and measurable progress to promote community development.
May manage grant funds including contracts and budgets, supervise policy projects and represent ODEI at grant meetings and supervise projects as assigned.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree and one (1) year of experience in policy, public administration, business, community development, and/or related experience.

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Experience establishing and maintaining a relationship with various community partners
Preferred candidates are bilingual with fluency in either Spanish or Arabic. Other languages will also be considered
