  Executive DivisionIntergovernmental Affairs — Brooklyn/Queens RegionEngagement Specialist Reference No. IGVBRK/QNSES_6308Application Deadline is February 16, 2024Intergovernmental Affairs in the Office of the New York State Attorney General (OAG) is seeking an Engagement Specialist for the Brooklyn/Queens Region. Intergovernmental Affairs is responsible for the coordination of all significant communications between the OAG and New York's public and elected officials. The Unit also oversees the OAG's community outreach initiatives, partnering with not-for-profit, grassroots, community, and issue-based organizations, as well as elected officials. Further, the Unit is responsible for educating the public on key issues of importance to the OAG such as internet safety, consumer frauds, civil and labor rights, housing, and a host of other priority issues. This position reports to the Director of Intergovernmental Affairs and is based at the OAG’s New York City office located at 28 Liberty Street. Duties:•Supporting the development and implementation of a comprehensive engagement strategy to enhance the OAG’s community outreach and involvement efforts in the Brooklyn/Queens region;•Maintaining a visible “on the ground” presence in the region, and serving as a local point of contact for the OAG;•Remaining current on emerging issues, shifting dynamics, and other relevant updates in the Brooklyn/Queens region, and advising/briefing Intergovernmental Affairs and other Executive staff accordingly; •Building productive relationships through calls, meetings, etc. with community members/leaders, key constituencies, and other interested partners and stakeholders;•Partnering with elected officials and community groups to organize meetings, presentations, and events;•Attending and representing the OAG at community and neighborhood meetings and events; •Maintaining databases and tracking metrics to measure the success of engagement strategies and community participation on an ongoing basis, and adjusting as needed to meet goals; •Preparing reports, briefing materials, memos, fact sheets, talking points, educational resources, presentations, and other written documents;•Assisting with regional visits involving the Attorney General, Executives, Bureau Chiefs, and other OAG staff; •Supporting advocacy campaigns to advance the Attorney General’s legislative initiatives and outreach efforts for various public service announcements;•Coordinating, as needed, with the OAG’s Communications, Intergovernmental Affairs, and Policy & Legislative teams to provide information and support for related priorities, initiatives, and outreach campaigns; and•Handling other assignments and special projects as needed. Qualifications: •A minimum of two (2) years of experience in New York government, politics, or community organizing;•Experience working with local, state, and federal officials and community groups; preferably experience working with these groups in the Brooklyn/Queens Region;•The ideal candidate will have a strong connection to New York’s South Asian community;•Strong written communication, presentation, and public speaking skills;•Capable of working well independently or collaboratively in a team with a proven record of building relationships, trust, credibility, and goodwill with a range of stakeholders/partners;•Forward thinking, proactive, and organized with the ability to self-manage time/deadlines and balance priorities; •Highly professional with sound judgement; must manage confidential and sensitive information with discretion; •Proficient with MS Office Suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel);•Availability to work outside of usual business hours and travel regularly within the Brooklyn/Queens region; and•Fluency in other languages is a plus, but not required.The annual salary range for this position is $61,320 - $63,160 + $3,087 in location pay. The final salary will be set after a complete evaluation of the selected candidate’s qualifications.
