  DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE

  The Deputy District Attorney's in the El Dorado County District Attorney's Office, prosecute adult and juvenile offenders for criminal offenses, evaluates law enforcement reports and documents, assists in search warrant preparation, prepares and files legal briefs and memoranda relating to prosecution activities and appeals, conducts original and supplemental investigation of cases, and to prepares for and conducts trials, post-trial and sentencing hearings, and appeals.

  THE OPPORTUNITY

  This is a great opportunity to work as an experienced Deputy District Attorney in beautiful El Dorado County whose office recently moved to a newly renovated modern building, which is fitting for a District Attorney's Office that is recognized throughout the state as being the top in innovation. The District Attorney’s Office has an active social media presence, a Child Advocacy Center located on site, and was one of the first District Attorney Offices in the state of California to go fully paperless in court. District Attorney Vern Pierson has also pushed many progressive and cutting new programs like Team Lead, Cold Case Task Force, and the use of drone technology for Virtual Jury View.

  The selected candidate will have the opportunity to:

  Perform the full range of routine to complex legal activities, involving the investigation and prosecution of routine to complex criminal or civil cases; prepare and present cases in court.

  Evaluate incoming law enforcement reports involving juvenile and adult offenders; review reports and files cases, and handle all aspects of prosecution from arraignment to sentencing.

  Review, analyze, and research allegations; make determination on the appropriate charge following receipt of the agency reports; file criminal charges; keep victims and witnesses informed of the status of legal proceedings.

  Interview witnesses and victims; review and analyze evidence, police reports, and other materials related to pending cases.

  Negotiate with defense counsel at pre-trial hearings regarding case disposition or modification.

  Prepare and appear in court for trails, hearing, and pleadings.

  Make recommendations regarding sentencing and presents the position at sentencing and revocation hearings.

  Assist and advise district attorney investigator and law enforcement agencies regarding in progress investigations.

  Research law and precedents to obtain information needed to prosecute pending cases.

  Perform appellate research and drafts appellate briefs, pleadings, bail recommendations, motions, and other legal documents; appear in the designated court of appeal.

  Perform trial work, including jury selection, examination and cross-examination, and argument of the prosecution case.

  THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

  The District Attorney's Office is seeking highly motivated individuals who want to start or continue a career as a prosecutor. They have trial team positions for both new and experienced prosecutors.

  El Dorado County District Attorney's Office also encourages all applicants who recently took the Bar Exam and are awaiting test results. You are eligible to interview and encouraged to apply in accordance with the Personnel Rules.

  Human Resources will assess your application to determine if you are minimally qualified using the following recommendations:

  Education and Experience:

  Deputy District Attorney I:

  A Juris Doctorate (J.D.) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from an accredited law school.

  Deputy District Attorney II:

  A Juris Doctorate (J.D.) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from an accredited law school AND two (2) years of legal experience, preferably in the areas of criminal prosecution. Demonstrated increased ability to prosecute complex misdemeanor cases is required for advancement to the level of Deputy District Attorney II.

  Deputy District Attorney III:

  A Juris Doctorate (J.D.) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from an accredited law school AND three (3) years of legal experience, preferably in the area of criminal prosecution. Demonstrated increased ability to prosecute complex misdemeanor cases is required for advancement to the level of Deputy District Attorney III.

  Deputy District Attorney IV:

  A Juris Doctorate (J.D.) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from an accredited law school AND five (5) years of experience, preferably in the area of criminal prosecution. Demonstrated increased ability to prosecute complex and/or high penalty cases with minimal supervision is required for advancement to the level of Deputy District Attorney IV.

  Licenses and Certifications:

  Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California or Nevada Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record.

  Possession of an active membership in good standing with the State Bar of California.

  Limited term appointments are at-will appointments in the unclassified service that unless earlier terminated, terminate automatically at the end of the specific project for which the appointment is made.
