  SCOPE AND PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Custodian is a caretaker of the building and grounds, both interior and exterior. They are charged with ensuring its proper cleaning, maintenance and repairs. In addition, the job entails a Support Staff position to assist with Food collection and storage for the various programs.

  Responsibilities

  ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Complete all cleaning according to the agreed schedule, using appropriate materials and maintaining HIGH cleanliness standards

  • Report all facility problems to the CO immediately. Actively manage and repair small maintenance jobs while supporting/overseeing the work of any repairmen, contractors, etc.

  • Use correct supplies and equipment for the right surfaces. Submitting requests for supplies in a proactive manner. Monitoring the use of supplies and materials to facilitate their proper and efficient use.

  • Ensure that all floors and surfaces are kept free from spills, debris or dirt by performing daily mopping, cleaning, dusting and sanitizing.

  • Emptying of all garbage can, shredder and so on; using proper disposal methods.

  • Conduct all work in a professional manner, adhering to the values and principles laid out in The Salvation Army employee manual.

  • Maintaining building safety and integrity through proper, scheduled, timely maintenance of lights, fans, equipment, entrances, walkways, etc. Advising the CO of all areas of concern and ensuring that they are corrected in a timely manner.

  • Responsible for opening/closing and monitoring the building when necessary.

  • In all Food Service/Pantry areas, follow guidelines/laws/policies for proper cleaning and care. Assist with the pick-up, loading, unloading, storage and rotation of Food items. Ensure proper Food Handling procedures are observed. Ensure proper documentation/reporting is maintained.

  • Ensuring that the building is kept in a clean and safe manner.

  • Sanitize all general population use areas including but not limited to: drinking fountains, fixtures, countertops, sinks and bathrooms. Ensuring they are kept to a level in accordance with NYS regulations.

  • Stock all areas in need of paper towels, toilet paper, soap, and other single use amenities. Ensure that all supplies are ordered in a timely manner.

  • Perform Seasonally based exterior building tasks, including much not limited to: snow removal and sand treatment for all sidewalks, stairs, ramps, etc.; pick up and removal of all trash and debris from the property; brush trimming and foliage maintenance; leaf collection and removal; minor outdoor repairs.

  • Perform seasonally based cleaning/maintenance activities including but not limited to; quarterly window cleaning, gutter cleaning, fan cleaning, etc.

  • Address all repair issues from others (employees and volunteers) in consultation with the CO.

  Qualifications

  SPECIAL SKILLS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:• Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in facility management and/or janitorial

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
