Job Summary: Canterbury Park is looking for outgoing, energetic and organized individual to join our sponsorship and entertainment team as an intern. Responsibilities include sponsorship execution and fulfilment, interacting with customers, assisting with the execution of promotions and/or events on designated live race days. The right candidate must be professional, hard-working and a team player with customer focus who can provide exceptional guest experiences to fans attending live racing events at Canterbury Park. Responsible for supporting the Companies mission, vision, and values by providing fun and games like no place else and adheres to the Canterbury Way by focusing on our core values. This internship will be approximately 40 hours per week and the expectation is for this internship to last for 4-6 months. Learning Objectives: Understand the various corporate partnership, sponsorship, advertising and entertainment responsibilities: promotions, event production, communication, and customer service. Develop a basic understanding of the role of sponsorship in an organization. Understand the "race day" sponsorship execution and how each function an organization works together to meet common goals. Learn the logistics and organizational skills that go into sponsorship execution, event planning and production. Develop the skills to successfully work as a team with group of interns, and members of the Entertainment Department Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Lead by example. Responsible for maintaining a high degree of hospitality, as well as a positive and professional demeanor at all times. Creates high levels of morale, fosters teamwork, inspires collaboration, and provides suggestions for growth to management. Ensure all contractual obligations are fulfilled 100% on all Corporate Partnership contracts Communicate & facilitate all traffic requirements per contractual obligations for each corporate partner, sponsor and advertiser every live race day Track and record all deliverables every live race day for each corporate partner, sponsor and advertiser. Provide daily recap on deliverables per contractual obligations Overdeliver on all contractual obligation when applicable and possible Assist with execution of all Canterbury Park "race day" promotions and events including set-up, takedown and selecting contestants for on-track promotions. Assist in distribution of promotional items and materials on designated live race days. Assist with monitoring, updating content for Canterbury Park website, blast emails, and digital TV platforms. Assist in creating and organizing race day live reads and traffic for production team and track announcer. Assist in vendor recruitment for summer events, such as Beer Fest, BBQ Fest, Pet Fest & more. Ensure proper signage and digital advertising is in place for all events. Assist with grassroots marketing initiatives by representing Canterbury Park at a variety of offsite events throughout the season such as community events, fairs, concert venues, trade shows. Other administrative duties to include: producing weekly company-wide internal communications, mailings, data input, data collection, email requests, fan requests, sponsorship fulfillment, survey analysis and other duties as assigned. Coordinate the execution of events with other departments such as food and beverage, catering and facilities if needed. Assist guests with understanding multiple facets of pari-mutuel operations including wagering, utilizing self-service terminals, how to read th program and Daily Racing Form, pools, promotions, contests, special events, etc. May be called upon to conduct tours of facility, live on-microphone promotions and taped internal commercials. May be called upon to perform as the mascot on select days. Perform all other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: Pursuing or has acquired an Associate or Bachelor' degree in advertising, marketing, business, events, communications or journalism or equivalent experience in a similar industry. Candidate must have flexible schedule and will be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the company, including weekends and evenings. Must be able to interact with guests, co-workers and vendors in a professional, courteous manner. Must be adaptable, versatile and tactful in dealings with the public. Must have basic computer knowledge. The ability to learn quickly and work well under pressure is essential. Must be able to pass Canterbury Park's pre-employment screening which includes a criminal background check, verification of work history, Drug Screening, and Canterbury Park Safe Driving Policy. Must be able to attain a Minnesota Racing Commission (MRC) license. Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of racing and Canterbury Park's facility is a plus, but not necessary. Database Management Extended knowledge of horse racing industry. Knowledge and understanding of advertising, promotions and corporate sponsorship programs. Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk and perform frequent wrist and hand use.
