The Mechanical Design Engineer within Digital Surgery’s Innovation team is responsible for designing, testing, integrating, and implementing solutions for custom computing and medical devices. The Mechanical Design Engineer is part of the team delivering novel concepts and products for the operating room and collaborates with a cross-functional engineering team including electrical, design, embedded/ application software, and research experts.
A Day in the Life
The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for:
Planning and designing mechanical and/or electromechanical products and systems.
Hardware bringing up, testing and debugging, and integrating designs into electromechanical systems.
Engineering duties include material selection, analysis and specification, design review, design for manufacturing and service, and manufacturing techniques.
Developing, testing and evaluating prototypes to aid in the determination of future product release content.
Writing detailed design documentation.
Supporting product and system qualification to requirements and recognized specifications.
Must Haves
Expertise with proven design experience designing mechanical and electromechanical systems, including supporting the design through manufacturing and production launch processes
Experience with a solid modeling design package
Experience designing injection molded parts, sheet metal parts, and standard machining processes
Experience with interconnect methods- discrete cables or flex circuits
Experience in defining mechanical and electromechanical designs and interfaces driven by test and simulation analysis and results
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Nice to Haves
Experience in medical devices, avionics, defense or other regulated business
Experience with Altium Designer
Knowledge of relevant Medical Device development processes and standards
Creo or Solid Works experience
Exposure to Labview, Arduino or similar software packages a plus
2-3 Days in the office per week
