　　The City of Portlands Health Equity Program (HEP) is seeking onefull-time Community Health Promotion Specialist/Community HealthOutreach Worker (CHOW) position. This CHOW position will assist toreduce health disparities among Portlands Spanish communities. CHOW willhelp people overcome cultural, linguistic, social, and economic barriersto care by assisting with navigating and accessing health and socialservices as well as other resources. CHOW will work closely with theHEP, Portland Public Health Programs, and other local clinical partnersto implement activities that will improve the Spanish-speaking patientshealth. CHOW will be trained to provide social and emotional support,increase knowledge of chronic health conditions, enable patients toimprove their lifestyle and increase positive self-care and chronicdisease management. CHOW will provide interpreter, outreach, translationand cultural brokering services as well as advocacy for their patientsand communities needs. Candidate must be committed to teamwork andimproving their communitys health and wellbeing. The ideal candidate ispassionate about building and maintaining positive relationships withthe communities and individuals that they serve. The applicant must bebilingual in English and Spanish. Experience in interpretation andtranslation is required. Medical interpreting training and experience ina medical setting is preferred. Must have excellent interpersonal skillsand the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and inwriting. Must be authorized to work in the U.S. and have a valid Mainedrivers license, maintain a clean driving record and have a personalvehicle available for work use. Introduction to Medical Interpreter andtranslation certification both preferred but not required. Offers ofemployment are contingent upon the completion of satisfactory criminalbackground check.
